orcatek Posted July 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2004 My MIL is coming to Hawaii with us this fall and is a huge quilting fan. She says there is a style that is Hawaiian and she would love to see some and learn some about the history and such. Any suggestions on how to help her find this. SweetEmi Posted July 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Orcatek! You're coming back - that's wonderful. We have several beautiful quilts here at the hospital hanging in frames and such and I know of other places where you can see them and buy them but I don't know where you can talk story about them - except maybe some workshops once in awhile around town, etc. If I hear of anything, I'll make sure to let you know. Your review and web page really made my Star trip last year. Yours was the first I read and set the tone. Thank you, Emi
spleen93 Posted July 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Lots of stuff on the Internet: http://www.lava.net/~mhm/quilt.htm http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0883633965/002-2638292-2083213?v=glance http://www.nvo.com/poakalani The Mission Houses seem to have a display of them here on Oahu. And there appear to be classes that take place in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in Waikiki as well. Maybe places to look at? Otherwise, you can buy books that describe the technique and history before you go on the cruise for her so that she can learn some before she even gets here. :) Spleen
Happy ks Posted July 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2004 I remember seeing a lovely quilt store at the PCC, if you happen to get out that way. Personally, the Hawaiian quilts I've seen are more beautiful than any others. Maybe because I'm partial to Hawaii.
