going on a cruise in oct,going in four days early and staying one day after cruise.leaving sat at10:30 how is bcn to travel out of with check in and security?also staying at the barcelona renaiassance hotel,would helpful feedback.

We flew in from JFK through Madrid on Iberia. Both airports are large but well marked. All announcements were very clear in both languages. If you are flying Iberia listen for gate changes. We had a driver waiting and he waited over an hour for us. The ride to downtown Barcelona is about 20 minutes. All security stops are the same as the US. No liquids in carry on. Barcelona will be the highlight of your trip. Have fun.

You will not be able to check in for your flight until two hours before your flight. Airlines at the Barcelona airport must share check in counters so they are given a check in counter two hours before a flight leaves. BUT since check in counters don't open until two hours before plane departure, you may find the line to check in extremely long and slow since they will have no more than two check in counters for a flight. Security (xray machines) wasn't quite as bad (long lines) as LAX or New Jersey or Paris but you should give yourself sufficient time to get through the airport, say at least an hour and a half before your flight.
