We are cruising the week of Oct 21st and some folks on our Roll Call say that they have heard that Carnival has Halloween Parties on cruises during the month of October. Can someone who has cruised on the Conquest in October please tell me if they did that on your cruise and if they do, what it consists of and if guest wear costumes? Thanks!

My friends had it, I was gambling, they said it was ok, not what they are used to most of it was cooked, we all go to sushi every week here in Houston and they said it wasn't as good.

Hello everyone!!!!! We are going on the Conquest in 15 weeks im so excited!!!!!!!! I have a question will they open the balcony dividers?

Is it true they will only open a limited amount so you need to go the pursers

Yes but only while in Port which sort of defeats the object as we were off ship most of the day, we had to go to the pursers desk to get permission, as the steward won't do it without permission, it was good for us that we could at least have a cocktail with our friends early evening on port days, once we went to dinner we came back and it was always closed.

I think it depends on the ages of your kids. Some friends of ours took their teenage sons (16 and 17) on the Conquest, and they were bored during sea days. I think it might be better for the younger ones.

 

Agreed - I can tell you that my sons (14 and 12, at the time) were bored - couldn't find enough to do. On the Disney ship, they shot a lot of basketball. The Conquest only had one hoop which seemed to be monopolized by older kids / younger adults most the time. That area could use some expanding - more basketball hoops, rock wall, mini golf (I hear this is coming), stuff like that. Also on Disney, they could always go see a movie in the dedicated theatre if they wanted - no such facility on Carnival. Not all kids want to do the Camp Carnival activities.

As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for", so I'm sure with the difference in price for Disney and CCL, you should get more on Disney. I just think having taken my G-kids and other kids, they've had a GREAT time on the Conquest. We've never had any complaints, only crying on the day we departed because they couldn't go to Camp Carnival!

I have read various details regarding the extent of the cigarette smoke on the Conquest. We have balcony cabins booked on the Lido deck and above and am looking for honest information about the smoke in the common areas and in the rooms.

Regarding Halloween - on the photo deck, I saw lots of pictures of people in their Halloween costumes, so I think people do dress up.

 

Regarding the smoke - I only smelled thick smoke in the casino. It smells even when it is closed. But I didn't notice any smoke anywhere else.

Yes, they do have a Halloween Party. Some guests and some staff dressed up. I remember some of the gals from the Spa came in costumes. We didn't have costumes, but we walked through the casino where most of the hub-ub was. Mostly just mingling, eating some themed food (minimal amount served), and oo-ing and ah-ing at the various costumes.

I'm not sure what they will do the week before, but on the actual day they DO make a big deal of it. Lots of costumes, decorations, special dessert in dining room, etc.

Another quick question. What is IYO the best seating for dinner? Right now we are set for the 6:15 but I thought maybe moving it to the 8:00.

5:45 and 8:00 seatings are in the Monet room aft. We prefer this room because the windows wrap around three sides. If you sail in winter it will be dark at 8:00 so it doesn't really matter that much.

 

Of the two early seatings we prefer 6:15 because it gives a bit more time which is needed on port days. If you like eating later then go for 8:00 in the Monet. If your enjoy going to the shows you have a head start on the 8:30 people when it comes to getting a seat in the Toulouse-Lautrec. :)

Does anyone have the card that shows the table layout for the Renoir dining room? I know I brought one back with me last year, but I can't find it or my capers from December. If you have the layout diagram, could you email it to me, or post it on webshots or something? I would appreciate it!

Go with the 6:15. We found it to be the perfect time. The later time puts you having to watch the later shows on a full stomach.......snoring.

Or go at 8:30 and be too full for the midnight buffet! We enjoyed the 8:30 for several reasons. You get a quick nap after ports before dinner, no eating late buffets (depending on wether you want to eat them or not), dinner service is not rushed. On the down side......we never got out of the dining room before 10:00. Kinda late to be eating. I think it's a personal preference more than anything.

If you have kids...go at 6:15. If you like shows....go at 8:00. If you like casinos or the bars......go at 8:30. I am doing 8:30 my next cruise.

Does anyone know if the spa deck cabins have any salon smells? Our cabin is right next to the salon and I wondered about smells coming thru. I am not worried about noise as it would be during the day while we are busy. I would hate to smell perms, nail polish, etc. everytime I go into my cabin.

When is a good time to head towards the tender waiting area when arriving in Grand Cayman? We really need to be quick off the boat to make an independent excursion, but not sure when to get in line for a number.

It will be in the Capers the night before. You will need to go to the front lounge in the morning to receive tender tickets. From there they will take you down to where the tender are located at.

On a previous cruise when we went to the lounge to get our tender ticket, the boats leaving weren't full and we were allowed to get right on without a ticket. It's worth a try to check even if there are no tickets for that time.

My DH and I were on the Conquest last year. This year we're taking our DS and DD with us. He's 14 and she's 3. Any ideas on what shore trips are good for a 3 year old? Also, how does Camp Carnival work? I was just wondering if we could take her out for activities and then bring her back or once she's there does she stay all day. Are the people who work there good with the kids and trustworthy??

Hello, We sailed on our first cruise at the end of September and I was wondering about a few things. We sailed with four adults in one cabin and had two twin beds the couch and a pull down bed. I thought I had read on CC that during the day the steward would put the pull down up and make the couch up. Our steward didn't do that and left the couch made up as a bed all the time. I kinda wished that we could have had the couch made up and the bed folded up during the day as it would have made the room seem larger. We weren't in our room a whole lot but when we were it would have been nice. I didn't ask the steward as I wasn't sure what was correct. Also, is it normal to not get a towel animal on the first night? Also, what about the last night. Silly things, I know, but curious anyway. Thanks for your help,

My DS, four, went on the Conquest last Sept and the Ecstasy last year. Camp Carnival is great. You can come and go as you please during Camp Hours. They close for lunch and again around 4pm on sea days. I strongly suggest letting the Camp Carnival feed her for diner. The dining room can be quite boring for a three year old.

 

I think three maybe too young for shore excursions. Last year we took Charlie to the beach and he was miserable due to the heat. (It was only 90.) This year we left him on board and we ALL were happy.

 

On a related noted, we saw a couple of toddlers at Stingray City in Grand Cayman this year. They were upset that they couldn't swim and were scared of the Stingrays.

 

Also, take pictures when they open at 5pm. If you wait until after diner, the lines are long and the kids start to get tired and grumpy.
