IBSaling Posted March 26, 2008 #2076 Share Posted March 26, 2008 FABULOUS....... All but the fact that you are a Tony Stewart Fan..... frown...... Go Jeff Gordon..... Now that I got that out of my system. Does anyone know who will be the Cruise Director on the Conquest for the September 7, 2008, cruise? This will be our first cruise and we are hoping for a great CD. Also, on another thread someone mentioned that you can bring a case of bottled water on board with you. Does anyone have any information about that. My reason for asking is that I drink bottled bottle but add the sugar free sweeteners to them which are not available on board. Any suggestions on this???? Wee Jimmy just started as the CD on 3/9, so he might still be there in Sept. As for the bottled water, we just put a case inside a rolling duffle bag and it worked just fine. Some people just tape their luggage tag to the case, but I've never tried that. If you don't want to hassle with the case of water, just bring your flavored sweeteners and add to a glass of water.

stx-sailor Posted March 26, 2008 #2078 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Has anyone ever stayed in the Flagship Hotel? It is the hotel located on the pier. We are booked there for Sept 6, 2008 for our Sept 7 cruise. We don't have to worry about the port of galveston parking cost because my husband is a disabled veteran and our parking is free at the Port. We lucked out on that one. Any reviews on the Flagship? we stayed at the flagship back in february for mardi gras, the parades went right by the hotel. it is an old hotel and it is a bit run down, the staff was really pleasent. don't expect it to be great but the view is nice in the morning. the morning breakfast is not bad, and there is a good seafood restraunt right across the street for dinner. hope this helped, just dont expect much it was ok. we are going back up to galveston for the june 1st cruise and are staying at the la quinta, free night. IBSaling Posted March 26, 2008 #2079 Share Posted March 26, 2008 How was Wee Jimmy??? He was fine. I really got a kick out of his kilt on formal night, but got a little tired of his corny jokes.

IBSaling Posted March 26, 2008 #2081 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Kilt, Well, I hope, for his sake, that's not how he got the name Wee Jimmy! :D Actually, he's short and Scottish, hence the "wee" and the kilt!
sixgun8 Posted March 26, 2008 #2082 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Actually, he's short and Scottish, hence the "wee" and the kilt! It was a Joke, Howdy. Yeah I knew he was scottish, although his real name doesn't lend to that assumption. And not entirely sure how Jimmy comes from Ralph??
Okie Steve Posted March 26, 2008 #2083 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Probably a repeat question,Are there hairdryers on the Conquest and what is the cheapest way to get to Galveston from Hobby day of cruise???:p We were in 1052, and had a hairdrying, but it was connected to a drawer at the desk in the room (safety). Also, if you wonder about irons, there aren't any in the rooms because of fire hazards, but found one conveniently located on the 9th floor, just below us near the stairs where washers and dryers are. Okie Steve Posted March 26, 2008 #2084 Share Posted March 26, 2008 How was Wee Jimmy??? I thought Wee Jimmy was very good, but I got tired of Wee Lance! And Henny, the South African assistant cruise director, wasn't all that funny, but he's still learning - he said he was 24.
cwr322 Posted March 30, 2008 #2085 Share Posted March 30, 2008 Ok, I have spent the last hour trying to find this thread because no one has posted for several days. I found this thread about a month ago and finally finished reading all the pages and got up to current and then everyone quit posting! So, I had to book a cruise so that I would have something exciting to add.:) The sad thing is it isn't until 11/8/09, but the good thing is, we are booked!! When we were on in February, the assistant CD was Markie Mark, real skinny white kid, and the hosts, were Randy, and two ladies that could have been sisters. cruisin53 Posted March 30, 2008 #2088 Share Posted March 30, 2008 Does anyone know what kind of improvements the conquest will be getting? Hi, in answer to your question about improvements, we recently sailed the Conquest, and my DH was talking to someone at the pursers desk. The statement was made about the Conquest being drydocked soon. My DH asked what they would be doing to it, and they told him it would be new painting on the outside of ship, carpet refurbishing and a big screen TV put up on Lido deck. Sounds nice huh?:p
sixgun8 Posted March 30, 2008 #2089 Share Posted March 30, 2008 she is due for some mending and brightening up. While she was still beautiful, she had some bumps and bruises. Those aweful eiffel towers in the dining rooms had nearly all been decapitated. I am sure most were treasure hunters. I can't wait until we board her in 09 of
EastTexans2 Posted March 30, 2008 #2090 Share Posted March 30, 2008 I have a question and since the "search function" is still not working.............I turn to you..... Can someone tell me about the speciality restaurants on Conquest? We're going to be on her in September and we've never done the speciality restaurants before and might like to do it on Conquest. EastTexans2 Posted March 30, 2008 #2092 Share Posted March 30, 2008 Sorry for the confusion......I'm talking about The Point (I didn't know what it was called).......any info?
sixgun8 Posted March 30, 2008 #2093 Share Posted March 30, 2008 we didn't do it on our cruise, but I regret it now. It is $30 extra per person and the menu varies by night just like the regular dining room. You can check out the menu on the TVs in the rooms and we finally decided to see what the "upper class" were eating. Sounded wonderful. We will make sure we make our reservation the next time. Everyoen says the food is to die for. And apparently the portions are larger than in the dining room.
Carlyzmom Posted March 31, 2008 #2094 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Sorry for the confusion......I'm talking about The Point (I didn't know what it was called).......any info? Yes, The Point. It is incredible!! Make your reservations as soon as you get on the ship! My sister and I took our dad on a "date" there one night on our cruise. It was awesome. It is $30 per person. Incredible price for what you get. You may pay over $200 per couple for such a place elsewhere. I had the surf and turf. The presentation of the food is amazing. We actually took pictures of every course!! The service is incredible and the atmosphere is very romantic. Our dad could not stop talking about it! It is a MUST during your cruise. CruisinMama7 Posted March 31, 2008 #2095 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Also have you all heard that in 2009 the Conquest will be going to Key West, Freeport and Nassau Bahamas..... I believe it starts in March 2009. If the Conquest is leaving Galveston in March 2009, which ship is taking its place? Another thing, I thought that I've read posts where people have already booked the Conquest after March 2009 and an itinerary schedule wasn't mentioned. Just curious...? Just curious...?[/quote'] It isn't leaving Galveston, It is just throwing in an alternative Itinerary. It will start probably after it's drydock if my timing is right and it will be once a month that it runs to Key West, Freeport, and Nassau. The other 3 weeks it runs it's Mobay, GC, Coz route as usual.
