yst347 Posted January 15, 2009 #2926 Share Posted January 15, 2009 The Conquest tenders in Grand Cayman. There are many worthwhile ways to spend a day in Montego Bay. Have you spent some time on the Jamaica board? Many good ideas can be found over there. If nothing appeals to you, the ship is a destination unto itself. Kingtro Posted January 16, 2009 #2928 Share Posted January 16, 2009 I am booked on a cruise aboad the conquest here in a few weeks and am thinking about an upgrade to a suite. Not a penthouse suite but just a suite. I would like to read a couple of comments from those of you that have been in a suite before and is it worth the extra $$$$$$? Thanks... ADD Boy Posted January 17, 2009 #2929 Share Posted January 17, 2009 I was checking out the Carnival website, and noticed that they now have the Seaside Theater on the Panorama Deck. Also, I don't see any of the family cabins (6E???) Can you Conquest vets confirm? August 2nd w/DW, DS, DD, BIL, SIL, etc etc!
yst347 Posted January 17, 2009 #2930 Share Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) After the Conquest returns to Galveston tomorrow she will be going to drydock, returning in two weeks. While in drydock the seaside theater will be installed and the 6E's will be converted to balcony cabins. Other work will be done also. CenTexGal Posted January 17, 2009 #2931 Share Posted January 17, 2009 After the Conquest arrives back in Galveston, tomorrow, it is going into drydock, The Seaside theater will be added. We are leaving on the Conquest Feb. 15th. We were booked into a 6E...noticed yesterday it had been changed to an 8F. My understanding is they are changing these "family" staterooms, into balcony rooms while in drydock.
BeCruisin Posted January 17, 2009 #2932 Share Posted January 17, 2009 Does anyone know which ports we tender at?Is it worth getting off in Jamaica? We were going to do Sunset Beach but they raised the price from $40 to $60? Is it worth $60? Thanks everyone!!! SydneyDog, I have been to Jamaica three times and we wanted to try something new so we went to Sunset Beach this past December. It is just a couple of miles from the pier. We thought it was worth the 60 bucks. Please don't go by first impressions. You enter through a locked gate into an extremely messy office area. You have to sign a release form and receive your wrist bands. They prefer cash over credit cards. They also hold your sign and sail cards until you leave. There is alot to do there. There were 8 of us and we all had a good time. Our 20+ year olds loved the water park area and the beach. The food was so-so, but otherwise we had a great time. Try the frozen banana daquiries! ADD Boy Posted January 18, 2009 #2933 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Has anyone ever booked multiple aft balcony cabins, or an aft balcony w/a wrap, and taken down the dividers between balconies? It looks like from pics, that you can take out a "door" divider, but not the entire divider...
yst347 Posted January 18, 2009 #2934 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Yes...the dividers can be opened. The aft dividers are actually removed, not simply opened like the dividers along the side of the ship. If you are thinking of booking several cabins to do this you should be aware of a few pitfalls. 1) On all three decks the center two cabins share a removable divider between them but are separated from the adjacent cabins by a solid steel bulkhead which cannot be opened nor removed. 2) On deck 8 the corner wraps have a similar solid bulkhead separating them from the first aft balcony cabin. If you want an aft wrap that has a divider which can be opened, you must book cabins on deck 6 or deck 7. 3) Carnival limits the number of balcony dividers they will open. You should have someone from each cabin, as a group visit the information desk and request you dividers be opened ASAP. The dividers will be removed later in the day or during the first sea day weather permitting.
Barefoot Sailor Girl Posted January 18, 2009 #2935 Share Posted January 18, 2009 We booked a gty balcony and we just got our cabin assignment for our Feb. 1st cruise. Can someone tell me if cabin 6461 should be a good cabin? Ken - we had 6461 on the Jan 4 sailing. We loved the cabin & it's location. It's just around the corner from the aft elevators, so you're just a quick trip to the Lido pool or buffet, run down the steps to the lounges and casino on 5, etc. Marco, our steward, was great. The only request he wasn't able to fulfill was removing the contents of the mini-bar. Our friends in 6414 were able to get their steward to take everything away from the fridge, but Marco said he didn't have a place to put it all. He did keep our cooler full of canned drinks iced, though! The only problem with the cabin was that it is partially over the Blues lounge, where the piano bar is. The piano sing-along was scheduled until 12:30 or 1:30 every night. The only person we could hear singing was the piano player, and he was loud & bad. Stay out late and you'll love 6461! Have a great cruise! Jen

meandsis Posted January 18, 2009 #2937 Share Posted January 18, 2009 We are scheduled to leave on the Conquest 2/8/9. Will that be the first cruise for Conquest after drydock? Will she continue to have the same interary as before? Does anyone know what all they are doing to her?
yst347 Posted January 18, 2009 #2938 Share Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) The Conquest will sail Feb. 1st so your sailing will be the second after dry dock. During the dry dock the Seaside Theater giant screen will be installed by the main Lido pool. The 6E cabins on Spa deck will be converted to balconies. The giant hot tub in the gym will be removed and replaced with new exercise equipment. Beyond those things general maintenance will be performed, worn carpets replaced etc. I've heard rumors that the cabin TV's will be replaced with flat panels but never heard it confirmed by Carnival. Conquest will begin sailing an itinerary to Key West and the Bahamas once a month in addition to the current itinerary the remainder. fjdavis50 Posted January 18, 2009 #2939 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Will there be a midnight Comedy show on the Conquest?..If so, how are the comedians? Any Good?
yst347 Posted January 18, 2009 #2940 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Will there be a midnight Comedy show on the Conquest?..If so, how are the comedians? Any Good? The comedians change with availability on any given sailing. Every cruise will have a comedian and every comedian will host a midnight show as well as appearances during evening shows. If the comedian was funny during the regular show he will probably be worth seeing at midnight. If he wasn't very funny at the regular show but hearing four-letter words make you giggle, go to the midnight show. If four-letter words don't make you giggle, do something else. I think it's worth $60 for all Food and drinks that are included. Most definitely worth the cost! I wouldn't want to go anywhere else but there. The food is great...they had a local bbque of the real chicken jerkee by the pool, not part of the deal but they shared and we loved it. These 57 year old kids had a blast in the slides of the water park and the barmaid at the beach cracked up when we asked her to fill up the glass that Mr. Rubber Ducky was sitting in. It is not cheap but you can't go wrong going there. We loved it! there is a "pedalo" you can use too at the beach and big tubes at the pool. Fun! The buffet was great and diversified, the booze flowed...

yst347 Posted January 18, 2009 #2943 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Does anyone know if the windows in the Oceanview Rooms on the Conquest actually open? The windows do not open. The only cabins with windows that open in the Carnival fleet are the French door cabins on Spirit class ships, and they are doors, not windows, they just don't open to anything.
