mpalmer Posted July 24, 2009 #3476 Share Posted July 24, 2009 Hey IamAlyce, I tried to get the capers off Snapfish. You do have to sign in which wasn't a problem cause I'm a member, but I couldn't get them. It said "Carnival Capers" and it brought an album up with flowers on it (lilies?). But I couldn't get into it....
reresister Posted July 25, 2009 #3477 Share Posted July 25, 2009 Menus are identical. Send away! We had 3 cabins next to each other. When night came, out in the deep dark sea, a storm blew up. We heard a loud banging and the chairs and tables where being thrown from one side of the deck to the other. My husband tried to open the door, he had a heck of a time. I could just see us getting sucked out to sea. I held onto him while he pulled the door open to the cabin going out to the deck. Needless to say I was scared silly. My sons on either side of us finally got hold of someone and they came down and closed the doors. :)It is very nice with the doors open, you can see better, and of course your family or friends are there. But please remember to Close Those Doors At Night. That was a night I will never forget. Kinda of funny when I remember back. We were on the Empress deck, in July of 2007. KITKAT0229 Posted July 25, 2009 #3479 Share Posted July 25, 2009 On our 8/23 cruise we want to definitely see the ruins. Has anyone done a Mayan Ruins excursion in Mexico? Is it better to book through the ship or a private company? Thanks! Going to the ruins will take almost all of our time in Cozumel because it's quite a long drive to get there. You don't get to walk up the ruins or anything. There's very little shade anywhere and it an be VERY HOT & HUMID there that time of year. If you want to take a dip at the beach there, make sure you wear your bathing suite. Next time we go there, we're just going to go to the beach and shop a little. gwinel Posted July 25, 2009 #3480 Share Posted July 25, 2009 If you want to go to ruins it is probably best to go thru the ship. When we went to Chichen Itza we were late getting back because of traffic congestion. The ship was packed up ready to sail but waiting for us. If we had not been on a ship excursion they would have gone. You would likely go to Tulum from Cozumel. It is a long way so I would suggest the ship's tour. Tulum is amazing. You will really like it. There used to be an excursion that included swimming.
yst347 Posted July 25, 2009 #3481 Share Posted July 25, 2009 Even better, if you want to visit Tulum book a cruise that calls on Calica. If you want to see Chitchen Itza book a cruise that calls on Progreso. If you are bound and determined to see Mayan ruins from Cozumel bring extra meds for motion and be prepared for a very very long hot day.

nancyjo95 Posted July 25, 2009 #3483 Share Posted July 25, 2009 Anyone have experience with cabin 6328? It looks to me to be in a good spot. It's our first cruise so we have no experience with the Conquest.

It's our first cruise so we have no experience with the Conquest. We were briefly in 6363. I am not sure how close that is to your cabin, I don't have a deck plan. BUT ours was directly over the casino band. When they started playing the floor vibrated and we could hear every note. If you will stay up late it shouldn't matter. But check it out. Everyone on our hall could hear it and couldn't sleep.

JerCatsRcruisin Posted July 26, 2009 #3486 Share Posted July 26, 2009 We will be stopping at Mo Bay, Jamaica & its our first time there... My fiance is really interested in the ruins, but we read that its a pretty long commute to get to them. We are doing snorkeling/sting ray city in Grand Cayman and now we don't know if we should stick with the ruins in Jam...We are also interested in the zip lining, but afraid of some of the jungle bugs (we saw a crazy Discovery channel show about some type of bug that can crawl into your skin and actually eats on your muscles... I know, I freak about everything..) and the building standards. Has anyone done any of these OR did another excursion that was fun? I would love any ideas! :o
nanuak Posted July 26, 2009 #3487 Share Posted July 26, 2009 Definitely do Stingray City in Grand Caymen :D. We really don't do many excursions, so I can't help you with the other ports of call :o.

I would love any ideas! :o I am unaware of any tour of ruins in Jamaica. Which tour are you considering? There is a tour of Rose Hall Great House which is a restored plantation northeast of MoBay along the coast highway? Mayan runs can be toured from Cozumel. The ruins of Tulum are available through the ship. It will take nearly two hours to reach them as you must cross the channel to the mainland first, then board a bus to Tulum. Is this perhaps the ruins you are considering? In MoBay you do have several options for fun days. I have not taken the canopy tour offered there now but have ziplined in Costa Rica. It was a great time. We saw plenty of bugs, we were in the rainforest after-all. We just used bug repellent and had no problems. Looking at the tours available the Canopy tour and YA falls combo looks like a terrific tour but it will be a full day. You also have many beach options in Mobay from all-inclusive clubs to ala carte at Dr.Cave Beach and Margaritaville. I think you made a good choice in Stingray city. It is perhaps the most popular excursion in the Western Caribbean. After the trip you can enjoy a stroll around town, some drinks and shopping before returning to the ship. In Cozumel you have terrific diving as well as numerous beach clubs to choose from. You can go see the ruins in Tulum but it's a lot of travel for very little time at the sight. My personal recommendation is to enjoy Cozumel and save Mayan ruins for a cruise that calls on a mainland port or take a land-based trip to the Yucatan, either Cancun or Playa del Carmen. From the mainland the ruins are much more accessible and you can tour at your leisure. Well that's my advice but whatever you choose to do I hope you enjoy the Conquest as much as we have. She is a nice ship and has plety to offer on this itinerary. Have a great cruise. :) Edited July 26, 2009 by yst347

There aren't any ruins in Jamacia, that's Cozumel and you have a 45 min. ferry ride plus about 2hr. bus ride each way. Not worth it. You might want to check out the Cruise Critic destinations threads. Here's the link if your having trouble navigating this site... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=587 yst347 didn't mention Dunns Falls in Jamacia. We're going in Oct., last time we went we went to YS Falls, this time we're doing Dunns Falls with Mystic Mountain. We're doing it throu the ship since it's an 1 1/2hr. drive. If you decide to go to Rose Hall Great House be sure and read "The White Witch of Rose Hall" based on a true story about Annie Palmer who owned Rose Hall. I got mine off amazon. Anyway, check out the link above. You can get all kinds of info on all the places you're stopping.
yst347 Posted July 26, 2009 #3491 Share Posted July 26, 2009 Yes...I didn't mention Dunn's River falls because it is in Ocho Rios not MoBay. The bus ride is 2.5 hours each way and includes a shopping stop so most of your day is spent in transit. It's the same objection I have to viewing ruins from Cozumel. Dunn's falls is better saved for an itinerary calling on Ocho Rios. JMHO :D YMMV :)

I would love any ideas! :o In Jamaica we did the Sandals resort, it is an adults only, all inclusive. We had a great time, small but nice beach with shade, a swim up bar at the pool, either sit down to eat or a beach grill and you can even take a little boat over to their island where they're spa is (we didn't do this but it looked neat!). It was a nice, relaxing day we spent there and it was a pretty place. Elaine

It's our first cruise so we have no experience with the Conquest. It looks like we might be above the casino. Is it real loud? What time does the casino close? I am going to be very upset if this is noisy, I booked this cruise back in March, so I am sure that there were quite a few balconies available then. I told the PVP that I didn't want to be too far from the elavator because of a bad foot, but I didn't want noise either. Oh well, I am bringing my itouch and portable speaker and will play some white noise if I have to.

It is over the casion, but if i remember right there are ony slot machines and the cashier cage down at that end so it may not be too bad...i've posted here earlier that i was in 6312 and jumped at my chance to move up one deck to empress. It may have been fine but I know for sure it'll be quiet up on 7...just a peace of mind thing.
