Has anyone rented a car and driver for the day?

I need some help. We are a party of 6 (3 adult, 3 kids), this is our 1st cruise and 1st trip to hawaii. Shore excursions can get pricey for all of us, and the rental idea is sounding more reasonable. But has anyone rented a car with driver to take you around? Kind of like a personal guided tour? We were able to do this in Florence and Sorrento (Italy) last year and it was the perfect solution. For 250 euro Fabrizio took us anywhere we wanted for 8 hours. Has anyone done this in Hawaii? Any other suggestions are appreciated.
