Carnival Secrets they Usually Don't Tell You About 2

this may sound like a really stupid question, but from what i am hearing any magnetized card can open your safe. What is the point of having a safe if anyone can come in and use a magnetized card (be it their sail and sign or an unused gift card) to open it up? Or do you program it to take only your specific card?

Only the magnetic strip used to lock it can be used to unlock it. No other will work.

You set the card you want to use at the beginning of the cruise. If you try and use a different card, it won't open it.

I always bring a room air freshner (not just the spray kind), I prefer the Glade glass square one that you just sit in the room. It is nice to open the door to your cabin door and smell something fresh. Not that the cabins smell but the air can be stale especially if you are on an inside, no balcony sea air to smell.

Next cruise I am going to try those new fake candle air freshners not sure what brand?

I love those things! Have them all around my big old bathtub, and will be taking some on my next cruise.

The flicker is just like a real candle, and will stay on for 3 hours and then turn itself off...in case you get busy doing something else and forget to tap the top to turn it off.

I think they're made by Glade.

Are you yelling at us? I just wanted to point out that when you put everything in capital letters it can appear that you're yelling. I would recommend turning off your caps lock.

By all means NO i wasn't yelling. wasn't paying a whole lot of attention...as it is I can't type without looking at the keys so I didn't realize the caps were on and never thought about it. I always thought if a person is pleased they can also cap on the thing. Oh well worked in a research lab for so may years just left things on caps. SOoooooo Sorry when you have 7 grand kids they want to print in caps... I'm OLD grin.....

I thought of two things as I made my way thru this thread (yes, I have been sitting here scrolling thru all 17 pages), but now I can only remember one...

As for the lysol can, if you are flying this can be a problem. When flying, you can not bring along any aerosol can that is not for use directly on body (i.e. hairspray-ok; static guard-nope).

Great tips, and I will try to print out a list of them for when I pack this week!

Thank you to everyone for posting their tips. Prior to my cruise a few weeks ago I read as much as I could out of the thread and definitely took advantage of some of the ideas.

Here is something that proved helpful to us on our last cruise:

To operate the safe we did as everyone recommended and brought old cards with magnetic strips so as not to accidentally erase a good credit card. I go to the local casino every couple of months with coworkers to blow off some steam and have a nice evening out. Unfortunately most of those trips aren't planned ahead of time so I always have to get replacement Player's Club cards. Needless to say, I have a handful! As part of my magnetic card collection that I brought on the ship were 2 replacement cards from the local casino. I tried one and it locked the safe. Since I was curious, I took the second card from the same casino (both cards were in my name) and tried that on the safe. Much to my surprise, it opened the safe. Apparently each replacement card from my casino has the same info coded into the strip so both of us in the cabin were able to keep a card to access the safe with. No need to hide a card in the room or hunt down the other person when something was needed from the safe.

For those that frequent their local casino, you might want to try that as an option if you wanted to have more than 1 card to access the safe with.

I don't know if this will help a lot of people, but if it helps one person, than I'll be happy!

On the Pride a few years back, a woman was frantically knocking on all the doors along the corridor; her husband's blood sugar meter had dead batteries and they didn't bring spares because they were certain they could buy them on board. Problem was, the shops were closed. Because I'm psychotically over-prepared, I had brought extra batteries for my husbands MP3 player, so she was in luck.

I never forgot this. So, if you have anything that important that needs batteries, bring spares!!

LL Bean also sells an item they call the personal organizer. I own the family size and it is great. You put all your cosmetics, toiletries, etc and it hangs on the bathroom door (hook actually goes over the top of the door). It is also small enough to use as carry-on so you are sure to have these items when you get to your room.

highlighter can be used to mark things on the Daily Capers cruise newspaper)

post it notes...to leave room steward notes

duct tape...in case something breaks or rips..like luggage.

I dont bring any of the above, but many do.

My wife laughed at me for bringing the neon orange duct tape along in the suitcase, I made great luggage flags with it and another color together, you could spot them a mile away!! It came in handy again one really windy night when we discovered our balcony door didn't seal well, I taped her up, (the door, not my DW) and we finally slept in peace and quiet.. NEVER underestimate the importance of "duck tape"!!:D

We used our driver's license to open and close the safe. We don't care if that demagnitizes.:p

I used one of my grocery store cards and it worked fine on the Glory.

Also I always take my Wal Mart special travel bag. It looks like shoe bag but has more pouches and fits nicely over the door and packs easily. It keeps many things organized.

Having fun reading all this. my way on not losing the thread is to do a post.

My suggestion on the TP topic. Ever since we had children and I discovered Costco baby wipes we have them with us at all times. They are good for

1-wiping hands

2-they will take stains out of clothes if you get to them quickly (and remember we carring them)

3-wipe of a table, chair or anything else.

4-and the best

they give you that nice clean feeling after your done your business. wipe once with the tp and second time with wipes (but you need to throw in trash can not done the toliet.)

Your signature about not everything that glitters is gold stuck me as funny because it was proceeded by the toilet wipe suggestion.:o :D
