gomomgo Posted February 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2007 Trying to decide between a snorkel or snuba trip. Love snorkeling but I'm a 'surface snorkeler' and afraid I might be claustrophobic with a full-out dive. I'd like to hear opinions on snuba vs. snorkel. DH doesn't think it would be that much different (he goes under when snorkeling).
doctrd Posted February 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2007 Try the Sunba! It is so peaceful to be able to stay underwater, not have to be at the choppy surface. No water in the mouth like regular snorkeling. Much better for picture taking, because you can stay down and 'wait' for the good shot. Even though you can dive under with snorkeling, a quick dive is tough on the ears, and can't stay under very long. With Snuba you go down slowly, clear your ears so no pressure, and stay down for 25-30 minutes. It's the closest thing to real scuba diving you can do without all those expensive lessons. PS. The Belize trip uses the same boat to take the Snuba and snorkel people.
FamilyDoc Posted February 6, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2007 My husband is claustrophobic also and for that reason had never certified. He loved the snuba so much that he and my kiddos finally got scuba certified. It is a wonderful entry into scuba. It lets you sample the freedom of breathing underwater without having to fear getting too deep or having the weight and hassel of the scuba equipment.
