TucAZCruiser Posted February 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2007 Has anyone heard of the Te Anau glow worm caves. We are doing a post cruise trip to Queenstown area and was wondering the difference between Te Anau caves and the Waitomo caves
Pacific Sandy Posted February 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2007 Hi - We did the Waitomo caves last year. They are a MUST SEE. We did a 10 day pre-cruise stay and arrived at the Waitomo caves early in the morning. We did the tour and then we decided to do the Black Water Rafting tour in the afternoon. It was Fantastic !! As you float along in your inner-tube in the dark the ceiling of the cave looks like a starry sky - Amazing. We got doubly lucky because that night was the annual Christmas concert in the Waitomo cave. Tickets were sold out months ago. We met an amazingly friendly Kiwi (actually they all are) who invited us to attend. It was an evening we will never forget. We are booked on the Mercury Jan/08 and we will definitely be stopping there again. Have fun.
sewgarfoot Posted February 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Hi, we did theTe Anau caves last Year. Really worth seeing. Havent been to the Waitomo Caves but as they are on North Island and you will be in Queenstown on South Island, bit hard to get to! From Queenstown, you're looking at a bus ride of about 2hrs 45mins (very scenic and pretty) to Te Anau followed by a 30 minutes or so boat ride across to the caves themselves. You might like to incude the caves with the Milford Sound Tour which is about another hours drive on from Te Anau. I think a lot of the Tour companies do the both on the same run. Aussie Eric:)
TucAZCruiser Posted February 27, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted February 27, 2007 Thank you both for your replies. I would like to do a worm cave tour but time might be a problem for me. Thank you again for your response.
caribbeansun Posted March 10, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2007 Long drive to see some worms don't you think? They are interesting but I can't see doing the drive just to see them. Flying into Milford is the best bet from Queenstown IMO and definitely worth the extra $'s.
