Ketchikan tour?

We will be on the NCL Pearl in May with ports of Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Victoria. We will be renting a car in Skagway to drive to Emerald Lake, visit Carcross, etc. In Juneau, I'm still having a little difficulty deciding between the flight to Taku Glacier Lodge or going on a whale watching trip. This leaves Ketchikan. Nothing really sounds outstanding there. We love great scenery, would love a cruise to the glaciers, but understand that this port doesn't include glacier cruises, would have to change plans in one of the other ports. Are there any canoe or boat trips that anyone's taken with absolutely beautiful scenery, wildlife, just getting away from everyone?? We also considered taking a tour to the Misty Fjords, but I'm not sure if we could swing the $$ for the plane ride, and the boat doesn't sound as spectacular. I would love someone's input who has been there. Another detail to mention is that our ship leaves Ketchikan at 1:30 p.m., so we have a limited amount of time there.

Hi, we will be on the Pearl on May 27... When are you on it? I cannot wait. IF you are on the same dates be sure to go post on the Roll Call board too !!!

We are going to just take it easy in Ketchikan. I think we will do the walking tour of the area and town and go as far as we can. We will also do most of our shopping here.. Maybe if we want or have time take a small local tour. Just basically just play the day by ear and enjoy. We are planning so much for the other ports that this will be our easy day.

We are renting a car in Skagway too.

Juneau doing the glacier and whale watch tour

Victoria doing the orca whale tour.

CANNOT WAIT !!!

I will taking the Pearl on May 20th. Can't wait! In Ketichan we will be taking the floatplane to Misty Fjord. Juneau taking the helicopter flight to the glaciers. Whitepass train in Skagway. From what I have read on these boards these are some of the best excursions to take. My fellow CC have not let me down yet!

Hope you find your tour and have a great cruise!

I have another thought for your. We are on the Coral Princess at the beginning of June and Ketchikan will be our last port. We are already doing flightseeing at Denali, whale watching in Juneau, the train in Skagway, and a Kenai Fjords NP boat tour. By the time it came to booking something in Ketchikan, we were kind of out of funds:confused:. So I was looking for a tour around town and perhaps to Saxman Village, but didn't want the "same old thing." Then I found mention of a very unique tour on these boards. http://www.classictours.com/.

This tour is also listed in Frommer's.

Here's what some of the guidebooks say:

Munch takes you where eagles soar and fiords flow. There's a chance to photograph totem poles, visit an Indian village...Shows off the local scene as well as wilderness areas outside town." - Los Angeles Times

Undoubtedly the most fun way to tour Ketchikan is with Lois Munch and her Classic Tours, 3820 Baranof Avenue. (907-225-3091). Munch drives a restored '55 Chevy sedan - and wears a period outfit complete with poodle skirt and saddle shoes - as she carries one to five passengers to city sights, including Saxman, the Totem Heritage Museum, the fish hatchery, and a remote bald eagle's nest. - Frommer's Guide to Alaska

Alaska - Jean Tauck, Ventura: "Classic Tours by Lois Munch....."We took a wonderful tour of Ketchikan with Lois in her '55 Chevy. We saw Ketchikan through the eyes of a local." - Readers Recommend Column: Los Angeles Times
