jtb123 Posted July 28, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2004 Anyone used any of these private tour guides for Arles, Les Baux and Avignon? Their prices are all pretty close but one uses a station wagon and the others use Vans. There will be 4 of us on the tour. Any recommendations will be appreciated. FANC6 Posted July 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2004 We used Catherine from Provence travel and really enjoyed our day with her. She used a very nice 8 passenger van and was a very good driver. We went to Aix-en-Provence, and several small towns in the region. We had lunch at a lovely outdoor patio restaurant. Catherine is very knowledgeable about the history of the area and gave us a very good tour. Enjoy your cruise!:)
sundial Posted July 29, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2004 We used Louisette Durand of taxidurand when we were in Marseilles on a Med cruise earlier this month. She took us to Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux, and Arles. We enjoyed all three very much and had a nice outdoor lunch at a cafe in Les Baux. Louisette knows her way around the area, has a very comfortable air-conditioned van, and is quite pleasant. However there were a few times that I had trouble making myself understood when asking her questions and while she is knowledgable about the area she is more of a driver than a tour guide. She was a life saver when we got stuck in a horrible traffic jam outside Marseille because she had a contact to call with our ship. We didn't make it to the port until ten minutes after the ship was supposed to sail, but because she had called they waited for us!
