Private limo or taxi

After reading so many posts about the prices and service with local taxis, I am considering a limo or private car to take us to and from Red Hook for a Day sail. Has anyone used any of these on St. Thomas? Or is the taxi service really not all that bad?

our taxi ride to blackbeards from the cruise ship involved a full van with a young arab passenger talking in another language on the cell phone in the front seat. the taxi driver asked him 3 times if he was calling Sadam. the passenger just seemed confused.

 

after he got out the taxi drived yelled that he didn't trust them and they shouldn't let them in the country. When i laughed uncomfortably at his open bigotry, he goes "what you laughing at missy?"

the ride back was with a kind elderly cab driver who stopped to give a bottle of water to a homeless man.

 

Guess it depends on who you get!
