We just came back and we did it ourselves. its a 10.00 pp cab ride to Red Hook and the Ferry to St Johns(4.00pp) and then a $6.00 cab ride to trunk bay a really nice beach. Then you take a cab back(they are waiting for you to the Ferry and then a cab back to the Boat-also waiting for you). Its not that much less doing it on your own than the Cruiseline but if you get good connections you will have much more time on the beach. The ferry leaves every hour on the hour(each way) and its 25 minutes on the ferry...

I don't like the crowds of the ship's tour...

I agree, do it on your own. Much quicker and much cheaper. Its very easy. We have done it twice. the first time was awesome but the second time, the water was rough and you couldnt see to snorkel at all. Ever since then, we stay on St Thomas and go to Coki Beach. The snorkeling is just as good and you can pay to go into Coral World and use all their ammenities. ( lockers, showers, restaurants) total cost: $6 pp for the taxi, $13 for Coral World cheap day but awesome!!! bring your dog bisquits for the fish!!
