safe beach for family

We are first time cruisers (my DH and three kids; 3 months, 2 and ) going on the Dawn in March to the Western Caribbean. Having read a lot about the dangers of Jamaica, I am now trying to find a safe, yet beautiful beach for our port day. It seems strange to me that it is the only port for which NCL does not offer a beach break. Will it be safe to get off in Ocho Rios, find a taxi and go to the beach for the day?

 

We really want to find a beautiful beach, but one that is safe for us all to be at and get to.

Jamiaca is a bit pushy. We did an excursion with Orville Taylor and he took us to a nice beach called Mahagony Beach. It also has a little place to eat right there and stuff.
