Cave Tubing/Ziplining Review

Just back from a wonderful week on the Grand. We spent the day in Belize with Nacho and Cynthia and had an amazing time! We hopped off on the first tender with the other couple we'd be spending the day with and met Nacho and Cynthia right at the terminal. We got right in their van for a 45 minute-1 hour ride to Jaguar Paw Resort. Nacho was quite the tour guide and gave us some really interesting insight into Belize geography, culture, language, etc.

We arrived at Jaguar Paw well before the other tour groups (the ships tours, Cavetubing.com and XStream (??) were all packing people into huge busses. The four of us ended up having the pleasure of ziplining with two great guides (Edgar and Cesar) ALONE in the rainforest! It was incredibly peaceful yet exhilerating...reall an amazing experience. As we hiked out we saw a line up of no less than 200 people waiting their turn on the zip lines. We felt so lucky to have had the forest to ourselves!

We then moved on to the cave tubing. While huge groups of people were standing around and waiting we again sailed past and were taken to our own drop off point (a 25 minute walk rather than about an hour like the other groups). We got in the (freezing!) water and were able to enjoy going through two caves rather than just one. Cynthia and Pedro each linked up with one of the couples and did all of the paddling. We were also lucky enough to have the resort dog, Lucky (!) join us in the river! (Apparently she only tags along with Cynthia and Pedro.) Again, we had such a peaceful excursion, alone in the first cave. By the time we reached the second cave there were other tour groups entering the water. The noise they generated was ridiculous and made us really appreciate the peace we had earlier.

After tubing we changed clothes, had a great lunch at the resort, and went with Nacho and Cynthia to see the Butterfly Farm and tour the resort a bit. Because we had gotten off the boat so early, we got all of these activities in and were still back to the port by around 2 p.m.!

All in all it was a WONDERFUL day and I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this tour to everyone. We felt perfectly safe the entire time, and Nacho and Cynthia were a pleasure to spend the day with. It was perfect!

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for the great review - my husband and I are booked with Nacho and Cynthia for the same tour - sail out of Galveston on Apr 7, can't remember now which day we'll be in Belize... - looking forward to it - sounds like a great excursion!

I think there were 5 or 6 zips. We got on the first available tender for independent tours. We still had plenty of time to beat the ship tours. The ship tours have way too many people on them. We went with XStream and had 10 of us with a great guide.

How where u able to get off on the first tender?

any suggestions.

How many zips?

tips suggestions?.

thks

The wack

There were 6 zips and a rappel.

We got tender tickets in the Da Vinci dining room, but no one even asked for them! We went down to the tender deck about five minutes before the scheduled tendering was to begin and just hopped on. The tender wasn't even full so it was no problem at all. You just have to be ready to go!
