Hapinowagain2 Posted July 31, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2004 Somewhere on here I read something about the engines or thrusts being different on the Coral Princess. I wanted to show this to my husband because he was interested and I could not really explain. Can someone help me find this? :(
AlainBob Posted July 31, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2004 Here's what I can find on the back of the "Log of the cruise" we received at the end of our Panama canal cruise onboard the Coral Princess... - Propulsion type: 2 synchronous electric motors; - Diesel engines: 2 diesel electric Wartsila 16V 46C; - Gas Turbines: General Electric LM2500, 25MW; - Output of main engines: 40000 kW, 2 x 8,64 kW; - Manufacturer of main engines: Wartsila N.S.D. Italia S.p.A.; - Thrusters: 3 Bow thrusters Rolls Royce, 3 Stern Thrusters Rolls Royce; - Propellers: 2 fixed pitch propellers, six blades; - Rudders: 2 semi-balanced splade rudders Now, here are the same data from the Dawn Princess: - Propulsion type: diesel electric; - Diesel engine: 4 Sulzer 16 Z40AV; - Thrusters: 2 bow thrusters HMC 3424 1720 kW x 2, 2 stern thrusters HMC 2422 1400 km x 2; - Propellers: 2 fixed pitch propellers, six blades; - Rudders: twin semi-balanced. As you can see, on the Coral (Island), there are 2 Gas Turbines that you don't find on the other Sun class ships. There are also 3 thrusters instead of 2 at the bow and stern of the Coral (Island) ships. Hope this gives you the answer you are looking for... Alain R. tomcarson Posted August 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2004 The difference is the gas turbine engines. AlainBob is correct in the differences.
