Fantasy Only Questions ...

Are there any foods on the Fantasy that cost extra (not included in the cruise cost) for example sushi? Also I'm a coffee nut, do they have a Starbucks-like place on the ship and if so how much do the drinks run? Thanks

Sushi is free. The only "food" that costs extra is at the Bistro and formal shop . Bistro will have your "Starbucks like" coffee and some desserts. Fornal shop will have some jelly beans and you can order speciality cakes for birthdays, anniversaries etc. Sorry I don't remember the prices. They are on the menu on the counter. You can also get the "starbucks" coffee at the Atrium bar. I do remember that I ordered a Willie Moffett ( local favorite) which is coffee, 1/2 shot of Bailey's and 1/2 shot of Khaula topped with whipped cream and it was around $4.95. The only down side is they don't have the tall glass coffee cups for that any longer...you have to drink it in the "starbucks cup". I miss my glass cups.

One tip: Expresso and Cappicinos are FREE in the Formal Dining Room. I always get one or the other with dessert!!

Hello gammaphigirl,

We just got back from a Fantasy cruise a few days ago and it was great. I know they have a coffee shop but we did not go there so I do not know the prices. I think the coffee shop is the only place that charges extra for food and such (danish, pastry, coffee, etc.) They do have a sushi bar and it is free.

You can get espresso and cappuccino in the dinning room, if you eat there, and it is free with your meal. Hope that helps!

Hi Linda,

Yes, you sure did. Well, you know more about the ship, than I, since you have been on her several times and me only once...but we WILL do it again! Your response was better anyway. :)

If you have the opportunity to cruise with Linda and her family, I can tell you that they were great to visit with (and don't miss her performances at karaoke). Take care all!

They started the self assist at 7AM on our cruise and when the VIP were escorted off the ship at 8:30am...we basically walked right to our luggage with one short (30 second) period of standing in line. Once we got our luggage, the porter had us through Customs and to our car in 5 minutes or less.

I am sorry for asking you to repeat yourself ...does your above note mean you were VIP? I will have elderly folks with me and thinking self-assist would not be the best - but I do not want to spend all day on the ship - we will be on Empress deck and I think I read that deck is usually called soon after VIP -- do you or anyone else know if this is true?

Thanks........

what time do they usually have the last passengers leaving the ship - that may be a better question to give me an idea of time frame.......

and, we are driving - so do not have an early flight to catch.

I wanted to mention that the prices at the little cafe are VERY reasonable. Giant pieces of cake for about $2, 5 chocolate covered strawberries for $3, etc. I don't drink coffee, but I remember thinking that the coffee prices seemed much lower than at Starbucks. I got an apple struedel type dessert there one evening and it was DELICIOUS. I also got hot chocolate there one day and realized the free hot chocolate on Lido tastes better!

Repeat away....that is what we are here for!! :)

Yes, we are Platinum members which is why we got the VIP Debarkation.

I would not recommend doing the self assist with elderly folks.

I can not honestly say which "decks" were called first, because the general debark is now called by numbers. We had number 1 on our luggage...which are VIP and early flights and MAYBE cruisers who need wheelchairs to debark??

Will your elderly travelers be using a wheelchair to embark and debark? This may be a good idea, even if they don't use one while on board the ship. They allow one family member to assist a wheelchair individual getting on the ship. I believe the entire family can leave with them at debarkation. If you think they would go for this, email specialneeds@carnival.com to reserve a chair at your arrival. If I am remembering correctly, people who use a wheelchair to debark also meet in a certain place (the whole family) so that they can be assisted off. It may be something to check into.

Also when you debark, use a porter. They have a different way of getting to customs and since you have to follow your luggage, you by pass some of the Customs lines. It was the best $1 a bag I ever spent!!

star2.bmpCarnival Fantasy, August 20 departure from New Orleans. The ship will visit Key West (instead of Costa Maya) and Cozumel.

We won't be on the Fantasy until September 8, but I would LOVE to go to Key West! We've done this itinerary so many times, mixing it up would be a real treat. Of course I'm not wishing harm on Cozumel or Costa Maya, so please, no one think that's what I'm saying!

I feel for those of you who are cruising in the next couple of days/weeks, because you will probably not get to experience Costa Maya due to hurricane Dean. Most of Costa Maya is absolutely beautiful. I loved it there, wish We would have had more time there. I just heard on the weather channel that Costa Maya will probably have the worst of it. Such a shame. That little town was starting to build up so nicely........

We were looking forward to going through the hole in the fence to spend the day at Cha Chis. Looks like that won't be happening. We love Costa Maya and Majahual, and we were looking forward to visiting again. I hope the wonderful people there will be safe and that they don't lose too much in this awful storm. I doubt we'll see Costa Maya in September, but we look forward to returning in December and spending our money there.

We are leaving Saturday :( This is/was our second attempt for Costa Maya, we did not get to stop there in 2005 because of a storm and the waves were too high/ruff to dock. That just made me realize how vulnerable Costa Maya really is, right out in the open to the sea. Cozumel is not supposed to get a direct hit, but the prediction of waves that are expected are making me think that their piers are going to take a beating. I knew when I booked in August that it was hurricane season, so no big deal if we have an itinerary change (the risks you take for the price)....just feel bad for the folks in the way of Dean.

Cozumel piers should fair well as they will be protected from most of the onslaught of the waves by being on the westside of the island. Now the Marley Bar and Mezcalitos probably will not fair well. Coconuts should be okay as high up as it sits on the bluff.

I am hoping to get an e-mail from Heather (our Jeep tour guide) saying that all is well in Cozumel. She promised to let me know as soon as she could that island and her family are OK..... I hope the Cozumel piers survive, Carnival still has yet to rebuild their's from Wilma.....

Please post in this thread as soon as you hear from her, after the storm passes. I've been wearing my necklace from our first trip to Cozumel every day for the past 4 days, just to remind me to keep sending good thoughts their way.

Rowan: You mean I did all that work for nothing???? If the models hold, it is looking a little better for Cozumel and not good at all for Costa. I vote we dump one HUGE frozen magarita down the middle and tell Dean to "chill"!!!

Anyone know if the fantasy has Texas hold 'em poker tables on board? If so are they the electronic kind with no real cards or dealers? Do they have tournaments? Anyone....anyone.....Bueller?

The table is not located in the casino. It is right outside the Forum lounge on the starboard side. When I was on her in January, they were still using a dealer and real cards. I know some of the ships are getting the newer tables. They did have a tourny. I remember Security having to be called because one gentleman got a little upset with a misunderstanding of the rules.

This was posted by the AP about Costa Maya.

"Hundreds of homes were collapsed in Majahual when Dean's eye passed almost directly overhead, crumpling steel girders, splintering wooden structures and washing away about half of the immense concrete dock that transformed the sleepy fishing village into Mexico's second-busiest cruise ship destination. The storm surge covered almost the entire town in waist-deep sea water."
