Beally Posted March 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2007 I am going on a NCL Hawaii cruise leaving from Honolulu and want to spend a few nights in a hotel before the cruise. Which hotel has the nicest beach and pool area? Thanks
spleenstomper Posted March 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2007 I'd say the Hilton or Sheraton, though I hear the Hilton is huge and can be noisy and bustling. We're staying at the Hilton because of free nights/points.
Beally Posted March 7, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted March 7, 2007 Thanks for the reply. Which Sheraton? There are a few of them.
spleenstomper Posted March 7, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2007 I know of two and I think they are equally nice: the Royal Hawaiian and the other one... lol... the surfrider or something like that? Dh stayed there back in the 80s and still talks about the view. I read a shout out about that one in the "Revealed" book... they said parts of it could seem dated, but it is historically important to Oahu and the views can't be beat. We're going there for sunset drinks on the top floor one night.
Bucky3 Posted March 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2007 Are you thinking of the Sheraton Waikiki? It's right on the beach next to the Halekulani. Nice location.
Lyncruiser Posted March 13, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 13, 2007 If money is no object, the Sheraton Moana is lovely -- and very historic. It was one of the first hotels built on Waikiki.
beachchick Posted March 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2007 The beach area in front of and around the Royal Hawaiian cannot be beat, IMO, but the pool area is small and simple--nice (lounges, umbrellas, food/drink right there), but nothing super special. The really cool thing is that they have a roped off area above the public beach line with lounges and umbrellas just for Royal Hawaiian guests. That was nice. beachchick
CruisinMK Posted March 13, 2007 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2007 Since you have "a few nights", one option is the turtle bay hilton on the north shore. This top pic is actually a pool. The hut you see is a bar. The waves you see just beyond often have surfers, surprisingly close since the waves move along the shore instead of into it. The other side of the hotel has a pretty good beach. The hotel restaurant was awarded best new restaurant on the island this year. If you're really big on pools the ihilani hotel has much bigger ones, place is more of a mega resort
spleenstomper Posted March 13, 2007 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2007 Oh, wait a minute! I may have to check that Hilton out! It's GORGEOUS! Thanks for the recommendation, Mike.
sptrout Posted March 13, 2007 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2007 I will throw one more in the hat; the J.W Marriott. Very, very nice! About 30 minutes west of the airport, and a world away from Honolulu. We stayed there last January (01/06) and loved it! http://marriott.com/hotels/travel/hnljw-jw-marriott-ihilani-resort-and-spa-at-ko-olina/?WT_Ref=mi_left
