What are the policies with regards to buying alcohol in ports to bring back on the ship?

Here is the policy, at times, reality is much different :)

Ports-of-Call

Alcoholic beverages of any kind purchased in any Port-of-Call will be confiscated at the gangway, stored on board and retained by Carnival until the end of the voyage.

I was told on one cruise 1 bottle from the ship, one bottle from the port as long as it was made in that country, and there would be no taxes on either, anything else, I had to pay taxes on, I went over that...but my total tax was under 10 bucks so she waived it at customs that morning, and I paid nothing.

On the next cruise I was told 1 bottle only. On my second day coming back from port, I had maybe 4 bottles on me, and there was no one at the table taking it up, so it went to my room, and then to my house...hehe .. no taxes.

So guess I'll see how it goes this next round to.
