mountainmare Posted March 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2007 I've done a search and have come up with a little info about Genoa but need help. We are booked on a Costa cruise next Feb/March out of Rome that has Savona as a port of call. From the bit that I've been able to find it seems that taking a train to Genoa would be a good way to spend the day. How do you get from the ship to the train station in Savona? We are walkers, have walked to the station in Piraeus, walked through old Naples to the ship in Naples from the station so as long as the area is safe and the distance reasonable we can walk. Also is there more than one station in Genoa? If so if we wanted to explore the old cityand since we will be there on a Sat would be interested in a market and would like to explore some of the funiculars what station should we get off? Genoa is the home of Columbus and the birthplace of pesto--I can't believe that it is so hard to find information. Thank you.
Rare HeinBloed Posted March 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2007 Let me try to help you... Go on the website of Savonahotels Click on any hotel's "View the position on the map: NUM. 1" Then a new window opens: click on "View the complete map" Scroll the screen to the SOUTHWEST! The peninsular between DARSENA LEON PANCALDO and LUNGOMARE is the Cruise Terminal called PALACROCIERE. Follow your finger to NORTHWEST - There is STAZIONE F.S. (that's the train station). If you need train information check with Trenitalia In Genoa you get off: GENOVA PIAZZA PRINCIPE - (normally displayed as GENOVA PP) go to the main exit - and you'll find your friend you are looking for in Genoa: In other words. You are just in the heart of Genoa. If you are interested in a restaurant recommendation: Trattoria Porto Antico Via Gramsci 35b (upstairs!) The best Italian food I ever had... Have a nice trip.
