need help with the best beach in san juan:)

this will be my first time in san juan and i am really looking forward to seeing the island. i am half of a young (24 years old) couple who love beaches and relaxed atmosphere. we are ideally looking for the most beautiful beach with maybe a small tiki bar or some sort of on-beach food. im just looking to hear anyone and everyones opinion or suggestions:)

 

 

just as a side note, are there any other MUST-DO things in san juan?

There are many great beaches in Puerto Rico, but the best ones are not near the port. How long will you there?

It also depends which days you are going. The weekends are more lively than weekdays. Having said that, there are not a lot of amenities on the beaches unless you do it either through a foofy hotel, or if you go off the beaten path to a real local beach (like Pinones/Loiza). If you have a couple of days, I highly recommend going to Vieques or Culebra (2 islands between PR and St. Thomas). Vieques has a nice Starwood hotel that I'm sure you'd love.

im actually there from 8am to 4 pm on wednesday may 16th. so pretty much one day to see the best available beach:( but ill make the most of it. im looking for something decently close to the port but since i have 8 hours, id be willing to travel a reasonable distance

Maybe a day pass at the Marriott on Ashford Ave would suit you. No Tiki hut

but a swimup bar, some food, beach chair, health club with facalities, etc..

Keep in mind that the beaches are free for public use. You do not pay for the beach. If you want fancy facilities, then a day pass may work for you. My advice is Isla Verde beach. It is not far and on the way to the airport anyway.

The public beach adjoined to the Condado Plaza hotel is nice...weekends are not recommended though!
