CMVAC Posted April 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2007 We just returned from Ocho Rios and did the Calypso rafting down the White River. We booked it with A-Z Jamaica Planners and were very happy with them. The tubing and "cliff jumping" as my son called it were the highlight of at least some of our group. There were 10 of us, 5 adults and 5 kids. The guides that took us down the river were great and were very attentive with the kids. They were also very musical and sang much of the time, when they weren't working their butts off to keep the kids off the river banks. The current was pretty strong and the river definately moves. Not at all like a lazy river. There are some rapids but nothing that would dump you out of the tube. My daughter and I have a phobia of spiders and we asked on this board about them during this excursion. Everyone said they hadn't seen any. Well, if you have a problem with spiders, know that they are there. My husband saw one on a tree branch that was the size of his hand. My daughter went right into a group of 10 or so smaller ones and freaked out. She abandoned her raft and jumped into one of the other rafts with one of the other girls. It was actually quite comical. I just kept my eyes closed after I knew they were there. Noone else was bothered by them and the guide kept telling us "no worries mon... be happy, they aren't meat eaters" Anyways, if I made it and still had a really good time than you will have a fabulous time. By the way, they stop close to the end at a place where they let you jump off a cliff into the river. I didn't do it... again... chicken. But most of the rest of our group did it. My son and the other little guy with us did it twice! They still say it was the best part of the whole week.
