Losing luggage

We are flying on a connecting flight to NOLA. The time between connections is only 45 minutes - what are the chances of a) missing the connecting flight? is 45 minutes enough time to get from one flight to the next? b) luggage getting lost in transit from plane to plane?

I've always flown direct so I'm a little nervous right now...

We flew with a connect and custom check with 45 mins and made it for last boarding.. you should be fine.. if you are familiar with the airport.. if not talk to the flight attendants and they will have some one escort you.:)

We have never lost our luggage on our 2 connects 45mins and 1hr :)

I would say 45 minutes is the average connection time, I have had a half hour and have never missed a connection or lost luggage. <knocking wood>

Should be fine, but I have had "lost" luggage in this scenario. I say "lost" because it wasn't really lost, just didn't make the connection. If this happens your luggage will be on the next plane from your connecting airport to the final destination. ARe you flying in the day before your cruise or day of? Even if your luggage is on a later plane, the airline can usually get it to you the same day.

Just to be safe, I would bring a well packed carry-on to be safe.

I have learned to cross-pack our luggage so if we lose one piece we haven't lost one person's clothes. What I mean by cross pack is, some of my clothes go in each piece of luggage and some of DH's clothes go in each luggage also.

We also carry on a spare set of undies, our pajamas, and a change of clothes.

We've never flown from Buffalo airport and we'll be towing along 2 kids!!

Are you flying out of Buffalo, or connecting in Buffalo? If connecting, Buffalo airport is relatively small, and I would guess you could walk from one end to the other in about 10 minutes if necessary. You should be fine if connecting there.

TJ172 - We are flying out of Buffalo and connecting in Charlotte, NC to NOLA. And vice versa for the return same connection.

Thanks for the idea of cross-packing buddyjo143. It's an excellent idea.

mattamber - we'll be flying in the day before and staying a night in NOLA.

You should be okay in Charlotte. When are you flying? Do you know your gates? It's a big airport, but it's not huge. We had a 45 minute connection in Memphis once and watched our luggage get taken out to the plane.:p

Not that losing luggage can't happen, but we made a 20 minute connection in Charlotte last fall with no problem and the luggage made it, too. It was supposed to be 45 minutes but our first flight was delayed.

If you're in the same terminal, great, if not be prepared for a jog :p but you can make it.

Your problem or challenge will be if your first flight is late. 45 minutes is probably the minimum... If late.....You may make it but your bags may not.

We had a connecting flight through Chicago. We arrived late, but fortunately the next flight was the gate next door. So we had no problem making it because we just walked off at one gate and on at the next.

Problem was our bags could not do the same. They had to get off loaded from our arriving airplane, go into the airport, get sorted, then hauled back out and load onto our departing airplane. They did not make it.

Fortunately, we flew in a day early. So we went out to the airport the next morning and picked them up before heading to the port.
