The Crow's Nest and Ocean Bar are the places we went. Check the daily program for times. Most dancing is in the 5pm and on timeframe.

If you like - hum your own tune -and-dance whenever you like. Dance like no one is watching and sing like no one is listening !!! Have fun - it's your cruise ( that you have to share) MaryAnn

If you are a dedicated ballroom dancer you will find the dance floors a bit small and crowded both in the Ocean Bar and the Crow's Nest. Also, some of the dance floors are slightly raised so you have to watch out for that step. This has never stopped us, because there is always a carpeted area nearby which can be used if needed. The worst dance floor was on the Volendam in 2000, because it was such an irregular shape. Maybe they have fixed it since then. On some HAL ships there is a dance floor in the Piano Bar as well.

Usually the group in the Ocean Bar will be able to play any dance tempo you request - from waltz to merengue, tango, cha-cha, rhumba and anything else you might want. In the Caribbean there is often a combo playing near the Lido pool and it is possible to dance there as well.

The most fun and challenging part of dancing at sea is the motion of the ocean. When you put your foot down you are never quite sure where the floor might be.

the2ofus,

Thank you for your reply. We enjoy dancing and it is an important part of our cruise experience. We are considering the Maasdam for Christmas and I wanted to be sure there were some good dancing opportuinities.

I know what you mean about dancing to the motion of the ocean!!!

Boomboom51,

The dance floor in the Ocean Bar on Maasdam is a nice sized oval, just a slight step up from the surrounding carpet. When we were on her last November there was a combo that could play almost anything you asked for. Usually there was a vocalist, but the tempos were okay for dancing. Most evenings there were six or eight couples on the floor at once, so not much opportunity for more than just basic steps.

The Maasdam Piano Bar does not have a dance floor. The Crow's Nest dance floor is a fairly nice size.

I know you will enjoy the Maasdam!

Just four months and four days until we are dancing on the Westerdam.

2002 and 2003 went on jazz cruises (40's music) on Maasdam and Zaandam, and found there is never enough room on cruise ships for swing dancers. We have fond memories of the old Rotterdam in late '80's with its marble and brass humongeous dance floor!!!! Unfortunately, the best dancer on the floor dropped dead while dancing. What a way to go.
