ozcaz Posted August 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2004 Hi everyone, We are going on the triumph in january and was just wondering is there any type of shopping in either St Thomas or St Maarten. Markets etc that type of thing or is it what I call normal shopping. Any info would be great. Gives me another reason to be excited!!! I just love to shop!!!!! Many thanks Caz
bjkeen Posted August 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2004 St. Thomas is a big shopping area. There are also a large number of vendors who approach you. There are jewelry shops, beach wear shops, and perfume for sale. St. Martin has shops too and Casino's. Enjoy your cruise!
randyat1001 Posted August 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2004 St Marteen has a locals grocery store walking distance from the tender pier, turn right, go over small bridge and it is to right. They had good liquer prices a large selection of grocery items including many hot sauces (for gifts) and a very friendly staff. Randy
dbauknight Posted August 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2004 [COLOR=Teal][SIZE=3][FONT=Comic Sans MS]DW and I have been to St. Thomas twice and St. Marteen once. Both have some of the best shopping in the Caribbean. Both have large blocks full of just about anything you want. We did some Christmas shopping while in St. Thomas last time. I liked picking up electronics, camcorders and digital cameras for about $100 less than what you would find here in the states. DW found a beautiful diamond ring which she has replaced as her wedding ring while down in St. Marteen. Both the cut and the clarity are better than any store we’ve found here. Also appraised about 2K more than what we actually paid for. Trust me, if you love to shop, you won’t be disappointed in either place. Cruising89143 Posted August 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2004 If you are going to be looking for something particular like jewelry or electronics, make sure that you do some homework prior to going. The islands do not always have the best prices even though they are duty free.
hstrybuf Posted August 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2004 There is TONS of shopping in both ports. What are you looking for? If you like chocolate, St. Maarten has a specialty shop that will send your purchase back to the ship for you. Jewelry, electronics, vendors with crafts. You name it they probably have it! Cruisin'Susan Posted August 8, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2004 the best shopping I FOUND WAS IN ST MARTEENWhen you take the water taxi get off at the first stop and start shopping there. alot of ppl go down to the 2nd stop and miss all the best deals. They proudly told us we were the first shoppers of the day and gave us discounts on everything. we got some really great deals. On the way back they remembered us as the first customers of the day and gave us stuff for free. Susan
