Crusintogether Posted April 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2007 I was wondering if anyone knows a specific beach or establishment where a VERY shady area can either be rented via 'clam shell' or other...... or perhaps just a naturally shady area? My mother is extremely sensitive to the sun and can be out in it for awhile protected with heavy unblock, coverup, hat etc, but must quickly retreat to a very shady spot. Usually the typical umbrellas are not thick enough and she still gets burned, unless she cuts her beach time way short. Which is sad because she loves to go. Any recommendations? Thanks, Amanda
turs Posted April 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2007 I don't know if this would be an option for you, but my local Walmart (Florida) sells a small beach umbrella with a UV 50 sunblock protection. They are pretty cheap ($15 ???). Possibly, you could take it on board in a large piece of luggage and bring it with you as you left the ship. Just set it up on whatever beach you found yourself on. If anyone complains, just explain that your Mom needs the protection. The umbrellas are not very big and very easy to "tote."
OttoCal Posted May 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2007 I haven't seen anything like you describe in Belize. There isn't a beach near Belize City, and the Cayes don't have a lot of shade, and the beach on Caye Caulker is very small. Cute, but small. A beach adventure in Belize might not be the way to go for you- maybe one of the visits to the Mayan Ruins? That would be part sun, part shade, and long pants are appropriate for the jungle trips anyway.
