Mizzoufan Posted April 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2007 We are on the Pearl's May 13th sailing to Alaska. Does anyone know if the cabins have CD players? We have a BA Balcony cabin and thought that listening to music while watching the beautiful scenery go by would be fabulous! Any ideas? Also, is self serve laundry available on the Pearl? We are thrilled to be on this new ship and can't wait to see Alaska. Any advice, recommendations, or info about the ship is much appreciated!:) Thanks! marilynd Posted April 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2007 I can't answer about the CD players because I haven't been in a balcony suite before. The self service laundry is midship on decks 10 & 5. The washer and dryer are no charge. You need to supply your own soap. We always bring our own but I believe you can buy soap at the reception desk.

Mizzoufan Posted April 29, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted April 29, 2007 Thanks for the quick reply and for the info. Here's another question: Are there DVD players in the rooms? Some how I thought I had read that somewhere... Since you've been on the Pearl, what did you think of the ship? Any advice?
z man Posted April 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2007 they first run movies on one channel i saw the departed about eight times. another channel runs movies that may not be current but are classics to me anyway forrest gump, pirates etc etc. no dvd player in room. we were on deck 11 in a suite so if it aint there your gonna have to go higher lol. preregister online. get a casino card on line also if they think your a player you will have two cards waiting for you the one for the machines and the other one the most important one means free drinks hold on to that sucker. at 5 bucks a beer 80 bucks for a soda cup you will need it. first time i ever bought a 25 dollar six pack. get plastic bottles of soda, beer whatever and put it in your check in luggage. you will be surprised how much you can save yourself with some research. pay restaurants in my opinion only that is save your money. no open flames allowed on ship so the steaks are not flame broiled they are george foremanned. lol. it is a great ship very ornate very well layed out. i loved it best one ever. you will enjoy yourself. dont shake hands dont use the handrails if you dont have too. you shouldnt get sick. after all that food though its probably a good diet. lol. enjoy
star7228 Posted April 30, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 30, 2007 A DVD/CD player is included in all penthouse suites and up (AE and up), but even if you're not in one, I've heard some people have brought portable DVD players. Not sure about the hookup to the TV though. :) We too are planning on listening to great music while cruising Glacier Bay this year! :D
CRUZIN TOM Posted April 30, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2007 Definitely no CD players in the balcony rooms. they do have music only stations on the TV but nothing you would listen to at home. Elevator music style of music. There will be a TV schedule for the week. The movies that are shown are the ones that are basically just out on DVD. ESPN for awhile, TNT is the the only network programming. Just open your drapes and door, bundle up and enjoy the view while traveling north. We will be doing that in August.:)
ENGINEER Posted April 30, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 30, 2007 We used the laundry room on deck nine across from cabin 9088 (I think). They are not easy to spot. The dooe is on the inside wall and has a small little tag at the top that says laundry. There is a coin machine inside that sell small boxes of soap for $1.00 each. It was really nice packing light and using this service. Not many people know about it. I'll bet the majority of people who do know about it are cruise critics. Have fun on your cruise. The Pearl is a beautiful ship with a wonderful crew. engineer

ENGINEER Posted April 30, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 30, 2007 Most people do not even know they are there. There were three Fron load washers and three front load dryers. We used all three at one time then ran the dryers 30 or 40 minutes later. We used them around 9:00 AM one morning. I'm sure you won't have any trouble. engineer

They can get very crowded near the end of the cruise. Some end up doing laundry in the middle of the night. The fustrating part is those that load the machine and don't come back for hours - like chair hogs - Washer hogs:D I tried one day to take pictures on the Pearl of the laundry rooms - visited everyone and they were packed. Attached is a picture from the Jewel
calmac Posted April 30, 2007 #12 Share Posted April 30, 2007 If you have an MP3 player take along some speakers which attach to it - they don't take up too much room and then you can listen to your own selection of music.
