Dougs Posted May 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2007 Hi, We are going on our first cruise this summer on board the Oriana and I was wondering what children (Boys aged 9 and 12) wear during formal dining evenings. The only pictures thatIhave seen on the web of similar aged boys are of them wearing tuxedo's. Are they available for hire or is there another option. feebee_71 Posted May 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2007 Dougs, When we were onboard Oceana last summer (with girls not boys) we found many of the younger adolescent boys were dressed in mini tux's or simply in dark blazer and tie. For younger boys they may well also allow them in the dining room on formal nights in shirt sleeves but they won't allow t-shirts or casual clothes. Hope this info helps. dak Posted May 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2007 When our son was younger, he dressed in black trousers, long sleeved white shirt, black bow tie and blazer (when he didn't complain too much). He now wears a kilt. Must have had some effect; he is now is the final phase of a deck officer course at Glasgow.:) David
Dougs Posted May 16, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted May 16, 2007 Thank you for your replies, I have managed to find reasonably priced suits on EBay that the boys have reluctantly agreed to wear, so will see how it goes, very cheap, don't know what the quality will be like. They can always opt for childrens dining if the suits are too 'smart' for them to be seen in.
M62Man Posted May 18, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2007 Hello Dougs We are also on Oriana this summer , prev Oceana 2006 and 2004. Son is 12 this year - quite happy to wear dark Blazer and dark trousers with white shirt and bow tie, black shoes for formal nights. Informal nights, smart trousers and shoes, buttoned up smart shirt seemed fine, might have had a dark buttoned down collar shirt open necked as well.( as you can tell wardrobe not my dept!) Our 2 ,( also have a daughter aged 16), seem to like dressing up and fitting in at night -quite right too as it all adds to the occassion and contributs to making it a bit of a glamorous evening for all concerned. Also we have some really nice family photos from those evenings. Noticed the difference when on RCC in 2005 as didn't enforce dress code as much which took a bit of the edge off. Have a nice cruise. Wheres my clock gone!!!
