Taxi in Costa Maya & Maya Palms Resort

Anyone out there been to Maya Palms? We have a reservation for the day at Maya Palms Resort and have several questions about transportation.

1) Are taxis available outside the fenced area where the ships dock or do you have to catch the bus to Mahajual to get a taxi to another destination?

2) Are there any vans or are they all small (4 passengers max)?

3) What is a good rate? I have seen $25 for 4 people. Is that round trip or one way?

we did this for our port day and loved it---no problems with the return cab--it was quiet, clean and the service was great---the food at lunch was wonderful----best shore day of our cruise

We have a family of three. The going rate for round trip is $40. We were advised to go past all the buses/vans outside the port area. You go outside the gate and walk about a block. You will see lots of yellow taxis parked there. Just make sure you arrange your round trip fare before you get in and go. Our taxi driver was very nice. Quiet, but nice. He was there waiting for us in front of Maya Palms at the agreed time when we left. Have your camera handy on the taxi ride. There are lots of iguanas laying around or running across the road (lol). We got a great shot of an iguana on a rock. You might get lucky and see a monkey!! Have fun.

It's about a 30 minute taxi ride to the resort. On the ride you can see how they are really building the area up. I love their speed bumps. When you get there you'll see what I mean. We love this place, very relaxing.

Maya Palms is a hotel --it is owned by some folks in the US who own a dive shop in St. Louis-----they run dive and scuba tours right off their beach---they also allow a limited number of cruise ship passengers to use the facility--you do not need to dive or scba to enjoy this place---they offer a daypass--a daypass with lunch--a couple of lunch upgrades and a daypass w/lnch and unlimited drinks

they only book a certain number of cruise ship guests and all must be reserved in advance--the day we went there were 12 of us at the peak time

they have good drinks--great service--excellent food--a nice pool with clean restrooms--a good beach-also the dive shop--shaded hammocks--rooftop view of the beach

if you are looking for a relaxing day in a beautiful place with great service--as opposed to the buckets of beer beach party crowd--this is your place

they have a website just google Maya Palms---it was the highlte of our Carribean trip and we are looking at cruises that return to that port

hope this helps
