dolly2377 Posted May 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2007 We'll be stopping in Victoria from 7pm until Midnight. It will be on a Friday night in early June. Any suggestions on what we should do / see?
Old As Dirt Mom Posted May 22, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2007 Dolly, you are not alone with your question. This topic has come up before, so I did a search for you using the "search feature" located in the top rh corner of the Alaska page, and came up with this recent thread for you. The cruise ships dock at Ogden Point in Victoria, a short distance from the Inner Harbor. There are all kinds of vehicles available for transportation to the inner harbor, including a free shuttle bus. You can take a horse-drawn carriage tour of downtown. You can visit Butchart Gardens. You can go on a whale watching tour. You can have an elegant (although overpriced) tea at the Empress Hotel. Victoria does accommodate the cruiseships in the evenings during the summer, and businesses that might not normally be open so late in the day will be open for you to spend your money .:) Click here for a link to Victoria's tourism website. Have fun!:)
Toyz711 Posted May 22, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2007 we didn't have a free shuttle bus. we had to pay for a double decker, that drops you off at the inner harbor. street entertainment all over the place, some very, very good. great stores..very different, more like what i remember in areas of london and scotland. every thing was open and busy...lots of lights. but it was dark when we were there. you will have a later sunset. gipper77 Posted May 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2007 They have a bus that charges $6 PP to and from the downtown area and cabs that charge $10 per cab. :)
Old As Dirt Mom Posted May 22, 2007 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2007 I'm guessing that some cruise lines provide a complimentary shuttle to the Inner Harbor, and some do not. In either case, transportation is plentiful and easy to find. Victoria is a very tourist-friendly city.:)
travelling fools Posted May 22, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2007 As you get off the ship there are people in Victorian dress to meet you with free maps & info you need regarding shuttles and walking downtown which is a 10 -15 min walk. It is safe to walk at night.
