The manicurist in the spa on Glory told me that she shared a cabin with one other person, not four to a cabin. I've also seen other posts on this site from people who have heard the same thing, two to a cabin. Try the US Navy, it's not unusual at all for 4-6 people to share a windowless cabin, especially the junior ones onboard, both junior officers (Usually 01-02) and quite a few enlisted. Officers and enlisted also eat in different dining rooms and have different meals.

It's not at all unusual for senior members, and certain jobs which are considered "professional" to eat in different locations. It is a bit of a class system, just like the rest of the world is. The more senior you are and the level of your job, the better the benefits.

i think i even saw on the site i was looking at, that some postions you get 2 to a cabin; others more. and i wld think that officers wld eat separately. i just didn't realize that so many other positions got the benefit of that distinction, if you will, too.

You also have to remember that ship entertainment staff, casino, and gift shops are considered contract workers and are allotted certain benefits. I know the gift shop worker makes $500 a month plus an end of the month commission if sales quotos are met.

Also the gift shop worker has to pay for their initial air fare to the ship and put up a $500 deposit to be held in case they do not work out. The $500 is used in case airfare has to be bought to send them home. If they make it to the end of the contract, the $500 is returned and airfare home is purchased. After the two month vacation, their airfare to the ship is provided. After the second contract, they are also paid while on vacation.

I have a co-worker who's 20 something son is about mid way through his first contract as a pool side bartender. It was just the right job for him. I believe it is on a NCL doing the Hawaii loop on the (Aloha?)

If you happen to see Travis from east Texas having the time of his life say Howdy. His parents are trying to set up a cruise for family and friends on his ship before his contract is up.

Did you know that family members get cruise discounts?

I don't know about NCL, but on Carnival your family can go for a huge discount on a crew cabin.

To the other poster, mom2b stands for mom to be, and it will be my 3rd.

Thanks for the congrats.:)

About the classes it is like that in everything isn't it?

Officers, cruise directors and captains have another dining room, their tipping is also much higher. My husband tiped about $100 a week for his room steward.

most of the waitters that work in our dinning rooms are just learning to be better, so eventually they will go to passengers dinning rooms.(training) same with room stewards.

I didn't know how the gift shop personal works, but Carnival always paid for my airplane tickets, even when I didn't make it to Miami on time to board and they had to fly me to Freeport.

My vacations were also not paid, but maybe the girl at the gift shop was American???I know if you are it all works different.See I'm not American, so I got full paychecks and tips, never had to pay taxes on either, the same was not like that to American crew.

We also got 1 month off for 6 months contract and 2 months off for 8 months contract.

Sorry so long...
