Papasaurus Posted September 6, 2008 #1352 Share Posted September 6, 2008 Anyone fresh off the Liberty with information to share? We are itchin' for details!! Debbie, You have been busy. We will just use you for our tour guide on the ship when we sail.:D I was on this thread a long time back and kind of lost track of it. Still not finding many cruising on our dates. Just glad we are not going at this time. The storms should be quieting down by the time we sail. If you find any more out about poker let me know . I might have to join in on a game. I prefer tournaments instead of cash games. Thanks Terry
racingraysswimmom Posted September 6, 2008 #1353 Share Posted September 6, 2008 Has anyone had cabins in the 6300/6312/6320 on Upper Deck (above Casino)? Can you tell me if you were bothered by noise from below? I read thru this thread and boy I wish some of the Eastern ports that were previously visited by Liberty were still available. Has anyone visited San Juan from 5pm-12AM and what excursions have you done that you could take your family with? Thanks for your help!
CEWayfarer Posted September 6, 2008 #1354 Share Posted September 6, 2008 Has anyone visited San Juan from 5pm-12AM and what excursions have you done that you could take your family with? We're doing this in November, but Carnival only has two excursions listed; a bus tour and a walking tour and I'm sure both of those are family-friendly. It's kind of a drag, arriving so late; it will be getting dark and the forts will be closed/closing. I just hope we can do some shopping! We're not casino people, so we're pretty much planning to wander around aimlessly and go somewhere good for dinner.
racingraysswimmom Posted September 6, 2008 #1355 Share Posted September 6, 2008 Thanks CEWayfarer for your reply. After your cruise, please let us know what you did at the ports and any thoughts/suggestions. I sure would appreciate your help. RRSwimMom
serene56 Posted September 6, 2008 #1356 Share Posted September 6, 2008 Thanks, Serene, as someone who worked in Sales or the Service industry my whole life, I wouldn't be one of those people, though! But I can see how that would be a problem. For example the capers I have here, there are at least 4 nights where there are hold em games. So it is possible on some sailings with the same length and itenerary there might be only 1 game? I guess he better play in the first game just to be safe. I just thought maybe if I saw another capers closer to our sailing date it would give me an idea of an average of how many games are played a week. So that is basically what I am looking for in a nutshell. But I can totally see where the Hotel Manager is coming from with that one. If there is something to complain about- people will find it!!!!!!!!! I suggest to use the website playersclub (or something of that nature) find out who the casino host is-- and send an email requesting your information

onlylivetwice Posted September 7, 2008 #1358 Share Posted September 7, 2008 Whats the verdict on bringing cell phones and laptops? we use the wifi@home for the phones, so if the ship is wifi were good to go, the laptop has a wifi card too. I thought I read it was a wifi ship, and I heard there is a per minute to get online. Per minute to have the phones use wifi sounds scary, but they will also pick up regular towers if need be...but do we have to pay to use the laptop or should it stay at home... You can bring it with you and that doesn't cost; however, if you want to get on the internet, there will be packages you can purchase. People say it is slow like dial-up. Cellphones as well, but you will pay international rates. Check with your cellphone carrier to see what those rates are.

You will not see a formal night on the night you gotta be packing and getting your luggage out-- which will be Friday.
earlethepearl Posted September 8, 2008 #1363 Share Posted September 8, 2008 I have been used to the same thing, Sunday and Thursday on a 7 day leaving on Saturday. But several people on the Liberty Eastern route have been having formal nights on Monday and Thursday. And on the Elation in 06 that ran this same route through HMC, St. Thomas, St. John, and GT also did a day later for the first formal night. stingray310 Posted September 8, 2008 #1364 Share Posted September 8, 2008 Does anyone know who the Cruise Director is going to be as of now? As of Sept. 6 Carl with a "K" (current cruise director) is leaving the Liberty if the info on John Heald's blog is still accurate. Anyone got the scoop??? Kruzgal72, I emailed John Heald on his blog and he told me that Steve Knisley (I'm not sure on the spelling) will be returning from vacation and will be CD for the Liberty. I believe he was the CD before Carl and Carl was only filling in for him while he was on vacation. I've never had Steve as a CD so I can't really tell you what he is like but I know I have heard of him and I don't remember anyone saying anything bad about him so maybe someone else on here can give us some more information about him. Hope this helps. Stingray
Aurori Posted September 12, 2008 #1365 Share Posted September 12, 2008 Did anyone ever figure out exactly which days were formal nights on the Eastern Itinerary? I assumed it was Sun & Thurs, but with the posts above I'm a bit uncertain now. We're trying to decide which day to book Harrys :)
dibble27 Posted September 12, 2008 #1366 Share Posted September 12, 2008 I'm booked in cabin 1211 for an upcoming cruise. Going solo, so space isn't a problem. Has anyone had issues with noise? It's up near the very front, so I'm also wondering if you feel more of the boat's motion. Anyway, just curious to hear about your experience! (And how's the A/C? On my last cruise it got a little warm inside; made sleeping difficult some nights.)
RollaThatRocks Posted September 12, 2008 #1367 Share Posted September 12, 2008 Depending on how foward your room is you might hear the anchor being let down in the morning. Also, from personal experience I had a foward interior room on the liberty back in 2005 and the ship was going against the current. Needless, to say when I woke up and started to watch tv I started to feel the quezzyness (spelling?). I immediately got up and went up to the lido deck, ate some breakfast, and was completely fine. Also, being up front you don't have to worry about the engine noise.

The "formal/elegant" nights were Monday and Thursday. We booked Harry's for the middle of the week, our San Juan day. Harry's was fabulous. We really enjoyed sailing on the Liberty. rinse82 Posted September 15, 2008 #1369 Share Posted September 15, 2008 Hi guys, booked the Liberty March 14th sailing. I've cruised on Princess and RCI before, so this is my first time on Carnival. For those that have been on other cruise lines, how does Carnival, and this ship in particular, compare? I'm wondering if I should lower my expectations to what I'm accustomed to in terms of the overall cruise package? I guess my fear is that I'll have the feeling that I downgraded once I'm on the ship. I've read so many good things about this ship though that I plan on being pleasantly surprised. Just wanted to hear thoughts from people who have been in similar situations. smiles32617 Posted September 15, 2008 #1370 Share Posted September 15, 2008 Okay, here are my thoughts about the Liberty.... I LOVE THIS SHIP! The staff are AMAZING! Alex is in the Golden dinning area, VERY FUN and friendly (not to mention hot;) ) The waiter we had in the golden dinning room was AMAZING! We made such great friends with him that we ended up crying when we had to leave. He took a picture of us and said he was going home after this week and wanted to show his family us. I WILL FOR SURE miss him! Walking to and from my room all staff said hello and asked how we were doing. Even if they didn't work personally with us. Our Room steward Acil knew our names in the first hour. Always addressing us by our names. That was nice. The entertainment staff are fun too. I have only been on two cruises, but this ship, the liberty, will forsure be remembered forever. The cruise ship its self is BEAUTIFUL! I would recommend this ship for sure!!!!!:D
emod20 Posted September 15, 2008 #1371 Share Posted September 15, 2008 What is your itinerary? I have all the capers for the Western Caribbean Costa Maya, Caymen Islands, Bahamas and the Exotic Western Carribean Cozumel, Mexico; Colon, Panama; and Limon, Costa Rica from February. I think they have changed the itinerary for Liberty and it is now the same as the Triumph used to be. I have all the capers from that too. oceanbreezer, we are sailing nov 8th, western, cozamel, grand cayman, ocho rios, do you have the capers for that thanks so much chaney@midviewdsl.com

You have NOT downgraded!!! I have sailed RCI, Celebrity, Carnival, and HAL. Each line has its own personality and I love them all. The Liberty is one of my favorite ships. Relax, you made a good choice to sail her.

I have sailed Carnival, Royal and Princess. I found Royal and Carnival to be on par with each other with the price being cheaper to sail carnival. We took our first Princess cruise and were blown away from minute one. Seems you made an opinion on carnival already-- May I ask why you feel the need to lower your expectations?
