Pay for upgrade upon arrival?

Can I upgrade my room by paying extra if I want to switch at the last minute? From a stateroom to a balcony? Can this be done when I arrive at the ship?

Yes, you can upgrade unless you have a situation like ours. My 9/5 has sold completely out! I was going to upgrade, but now there is not a space anywhere available on that ship. Oh well...you snooze, you lose! Will be chillin' on the Miracle in 25 days! :D :D

Would Carnival give you a reduced rate to upgrade? Of course, it would have to be first come, first served. On my last cruise, they told everyone no upgrades, it was a sold out cruise.

Hopefully at the last minute they have already upgraded all the guarantees to the balcony cabins. Might want to check at least a week out. Been on 3 cruises in the last year and the sign on the pursurers desk is always no upgrades available.

It's my understanding that (should there be a cabin available), you would pay the full difference in the cabin rates.

*Every* Carnival cruise that I have been on, and most of the ones on other lines as well, the "No Upgrades Available" sign was posted at the Purser's Desk.

All the Carnival cruises I have been on, there has been a sign saying no upgrades available. Lucky for me, I usually book the cabin I want.:)
