thehen Posted May 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2007 Okay .......... I'm one of those people who book independent tours while cruising. On most occasions, our small travelling group gets a better product at a reduced cost. I use these boards and research our prospective guides, and have always had a good result. My question is 'how do you handle tipping a guide/driver if he is the owner of the business"? I was always under the impression that an employee of a business is tipped for service, but an owner is not. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding this?? What exactly are the expectations of an owner/operator?
sira3 Posted May 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2007 I would tip the owner the same as I would tip anyone else. they are doing the same service and would appreciate the tip as well. When you tip some one you are saying they did a good job.

ddonalds Posted May 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2007 Totally agreed. The "owner don't tip" philosophy doesn't really work anymore. Even my hairdresser and nail person (both are owners) truly appreciate the tips.... For services - I say pay for quality service!!:D
