martyap Posted June 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2007 There are plenty of taxis directly out at the curb at Ataturk airport. You get on the visa line, pay for your visa and then proceed to passport control. It took us about 30 minutes in all. You then go to the carousel to p/u your luggage. If you want to rent a luggage cart you will need some TRY (Turkish lira) coins. If you are approached by a distinguished man in a suit who tells you your hotel has an office in the airport say no thanks and proceed to the curb. A taxi facilitator will put your bags into a taxi and he too will expect a tip. It is a good idea to write down the exact address of your hotel to show the driver. It should take about 20-25 minutes to either Taksim or Sultanahmet and cost about 25 TRY or $18. Taxis do have meters but there are charges for day (gunduz) and 50% higher charges for night (gece). Make certain the correct one shows on the meter......Next....hang on tight!!!!! Marty Some hotels have a p/u service. Check with your hotel.
