Don't Drink the Water?

We're going on the Legend on June 24th for a 7-day Western Caribean cruise. Everyone is warning us not to have mixed drinks or soda with ice when we're ashore. Just how sound is there advice?

bottled water is your best bet - skip the ice - stick to beers served ice cold. you would hate to get a belly ache on a cruise and ruin your vacation.

Many of the "Moctazuma's Revenge" cases are self inflicted from over drinking in general. Some people have weak stomachs and if they go from home in West Virginia where they eat steak and potatoes, to New Orleans where they eat jambalaya, they often get wheezy. If you are typically a stable person (not mentally, but physically) you probably won't suffer any problems. The percent of travelers who really get sick is kind of low, but for them, it's a miserable life.

 

If you skip all iced drinks you can’t have a Bahama Mama or Sex on the Beach and you should try them both, in that order. LOL.

This may've been the case 20 years ago, but they make thier living from tourism & all the water in Coz is safe to drink.

Totally agree. The "advice" you were given is bogus. This is a case where "everyone" is wrong. I'll even bet that none of those people have ever been to Cozumel.

I been to Coz on countless cruises as well as 5 land trips (each a week or longer) and never been sick. There is no need to worry about the ice or water being unsafe.

 

On the other hand, too many of those drinks and too much sun combined, can make you sick as a dog!!!!:eek: (But don't blame it on the water!!!);)

Uneducated! If you need warnings, then here is one that makes drinking straight from Mexico's lakes probably less hazadous than the school drinking fountains in a village like North Bend, Oregon.

I have to agree..that advice is from 20 years ago....It amazes me the advice people give even though they have no clue....The water is fine...Been there many times and never had a problem

I had a coke with ice cubes in it and I was fine:D

most of the places in the tourist area of Cozumel purify their water (including water for ice)

 

we had drinks at several places in Coz with ice and never had a problem

On six trips to Cozumel, I've drank the bottled water, the coffee, the beer and mixed drinks... and have never had a problem..... :)

Same here. I have never had a problem with the water or drinks on Cozumel. mzznlink, we'll be on that same cruise on the 24th. :D
