teripp Posted June 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2007 Ok, What is the difference between the Gin I bought on board with the label saying "export strenght" and the same gin I buy at home? which is stronger?? :)
Colonel_Clobber Posted June 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2007 Look for the word "proof" on the bottle. Directly after proof, there will be a number (probably 80). The bottle with the higher proof number is stronger.
mrdood Posted June 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2007 Which depending upon where you bought it and where you live, may or may not make a difference. Like Utah's 3.2% beer, I have to drink a lot more to get that buzz...

m steve Posted June 15, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2007 Most domestic gin in US is 80 proof while Brit gin is up to 94 proof. Proof is 2X the alcoholic content. Beefeater and Bombay Sapphire is 94 proof. There are also some vodkas that will be overproof at 100 proof rather than 80. Until about 20 years ago most bottled liquor was at least 86.4 proof. Check the flavored rums and vodkas and they are low proof about 40. Most of this was done to keep retail prices low when the US raised alcohol tax based on proof. Some brands outside the states will be at the higher proof like Mt. Gay rum is 86 in islands and 80 in states.
