Check out the thread on Coki Beach for some details and reviews of shore snorkeling at this site in St. Thomas -- very helpful info.

If you follow the thread Snorkeling from Shore?? you'll see I posted some additional information on St. Thomas/St. John. And will be posting additional information.

Are you interested in going on your own/from shore or with a boat tour?

We enjoyed a champagne cateraman sail booked through Princess over to St. John to snorkel, although there were well over a dozen people. Not crowded on board or in the water, but still, a more sizeable group. If you are not on Princess I'm sure we can figure out who the vendor is. Nice sail over Pillsubury Sound and pretty calm snorkeling with some nice fish and one turtle.

We also really liked a small private excursion we booked independently another time with Jolly Mon -- four person minimum (Max 6), but we found another couple to share through roll calls on this board. Less expensive PP and they meet you right at the end of the cruise ship dock (you can see the Jolly Mon at anchor from your ship) so no time spent going by bus elsewhere to set sail.

It's a lovely traditional sailing vessel, crewed by a very nice husband and wife team, who will take you over to off Buck Island (protected national park) to snorkel. Gayle suits up and goes with you, so that is a plus (a) for confidence and (b) she sees things and brings them to your attention that you might have missed otherwise. It was a little choppy, but if you are experienced swimmers that shouldn't be a problem. Plus, we loved hearing about their experiences living aboard and sailing all around the Caribbean prior to settling down in St. Thomas (on land!).

Post back if you want more info!
