YOu have to GET MARRIED In port BUT NOT A VOW Renewal. We renewed our vows last March on the Navigator and it was one of the most AWESOME things we could have ever done. We were treated like royalty all week. We recieved little coupons etc. all week with little gifts. We got a photographer for over an hour and he went ALL over the ship and took pictures, we had a small wedding cake, toast and a little reception room, plus the vow renewal was in the chapel. We ate dinner in Portofinos and they made the reservations for us and although Portofinos said they were full they MADE It happen! I would HIGHLY reccommend it to anyone considering it. It was well worth the $400(I believe). They told the dining staff who made Creme Brulee(my favorite) for our entire table(they did not have it on the menu) for the night of our anniversary they sent another extra bottle of champagne that wasn't listed on the list of things included and then the photographer ended up giving us about 10 photos and an extra album for free. DO IT!

I need to post some of the pictures because the photographer did GREAT work!

Oh I forgot to say that I requested to get married at sunset (the exact time we got married on the day of our anniversary) and they did the renewal about 30 minutes before sunset so the pictures of cake and toasting would be at sunset it looks like a backdrop its so unbelievingly beautiful!

We are renewing our vows this August on the Explorer. Dan I wanted it to be a surprise at first, but then decided to include my wife so she could pick out her own dress and flowers etc..,and she seemed very excited to help with the planning of the "special day". Our kids are going and will be in the ceremony,so there were wardrobe and flower considerations for them as well. I don't think there is a right answer here, but I would atleast consider it. My wife is not big on surprises,so that influenced my decision also. Congratulations no matter what you decide :)

My DH and I decided together about doing it. I did wear a long white dress but not poffy or anything. You get to choose music and what type of bouquet and cake you get. Because you walk all over the ship to take pictures it draws attention to yourselves and EVERYONE walking about or in the casino etc. see them taking pictures. Your wife would for sure probably want to have a say in what she gets to wear for that! Because we were doing that it gave us three formal nights. My DH owns a tux so he wore that. I can't remember the number of guests you were allowed to have (10 or 20) I believe could be included without extra cost but we just had another couple we were crusing with there for us. This trip was NO kids.

My pictures are on my computer but I'm not sure how to make them where you can view them???

Dsan ....

You have to pay (and book) for the vow renewal a month or so out and then they called us about 2 weeks before to pick out the things we wanted. Read the info and then you can call the Royal Romance Department and they will give you all the particulars. Our travel agent had the number so I'm sure most travel agents have that info.

Once you get on the ship they leave you an invite to meet with the staff person onboard who will perform and plan your ceremony to make sure they have it just the way you want it.

Martha,

How flexible are they with the timing and location of ceremony?

We just did a vow renewal on Explorer in April...it was an amazing experience. I'm so happy we did it. It was beautiful. Royal Romance did a great job. My photographer wasn't too great but we got some good shots from him and from others sailing with us. We had a group of 18, we had the appetizer, open bar for 1 hr. reception. Our son (31) and daughter (25) were involved, daughter walked my husband down the aisle, son walked me, and they both did a reading. I cried throughout the whole thing. I can email you some pix if you would like. I wore a white lacy short sun dress, hubby wore a pair of nice slacks with a Tommy Bahama shirt, he wanted a relaxed look. It was one of the best days of my life!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Would it be weird to do the vow renewal but it only be the two of us there? My husband and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary and would like to do this. We were married at the jailhouse by a magistrate....with prisoners waiting to make bail outside...who all clapped when we came out...   . Needless to say, we'd REALLY like to do something like this, but want to make sure it is appropriate if we don't have anyone with us. Thanks!:)

Does Royal Caribbean provide a minister for a vow renewal, or does

a staff member perform the ceremony? We are looking to plan a

vow renewal in April on our third anniversary. We were were married

by a jp, so we would now like to be married by a minister. If they

don't provide a minister I think we will look into an outside company.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

It is a staff member, not a minister or the captain.

I don't think it is weird. As of now we are the only one going and we are doing it for us..last time there were 200 so it will be nice and quiet this time...go for it

Thanks everyone! We went ahead and booked the vow renewal for our cruise. We had to pay the $100 surchase because we are on Freedom of the Seas so it was $500 total. They also have an island vow renewal on Labadee, but we are happy with doing it on the ship.

Not weird at all. This is for/about you and your hubby. after reading about how nice it is I may have to plan a cruise with vow renewal for my 10th next year.

That isn't necessarily true. My husband and I had our Vow Renewal Ceremony while at sea. The tenders couldn't reach Labadee, so we had it at sunset on the Voyager. I wish we had done our first ceremony on a ship. It was BEAUTIFUL !!! Shoot me an email if you have ANY questions.

Have you cruised with RCCL before? If so, you can enroll in their Crown & Anchor club for repeat passengers. They waived the $100 surcharge for me when we renewed on Explorer because I was a C & A member.

This is our first cruise so we get the whammy :). Thanks for the tip though!!

And not that anyone asked, but I thought I'd clarify my statement regarding my husband and I "getting married at the jailhouse"...we ended up there because the courthouse magistrates had gone to lunch and we were too silly to wait an hour so we drove to the county jail. When I reread my post it made it sound like we had PLANNED to get married there. :D
