which hotel would you stay at in San Juan. We (me, DH, and two DDs, ages 14 and 12) are cruising next year during spring break and would like a room pre cruise. We are specifically looking for something clean, safe environment, not too far from the airport, not too far from the pier, close proximity to Old San Juan, some good restaurants nearby and a nice pool area for the girls. Does such a place exist? Where would you stay? The hotels are pretty pricey for that time of year but I'm just going to bite the bullet and book a room a.s.a.p. We sailed out of San Juan last year but flew in the day of the cruise so I don't know where anything is. Thanks for your help! :D

We are going on a Cruise in Nov. We booked the Caribe Hilton for 2 nights at $65 a night on priceline. It is 7 mi. from the airport, 2 miles from Old San Juan and 1 mile from the piers. I was told you can catch a bus at Hilton to Old San Jaun for less than $1, or take a cab. Here is a map of San Juan hope this helps.

Clean and safe won't be an issue at any of the chain hotels. There are no "motels" as we know them in PR. That is a whole story within itself that I'll spare you.

If money is no object, the Sheraton OSJ, Ritz Carlton, Intercontental, and the El San Juan Hotel are some of the top picks. Caribe Hilton is not recommended since the proximity to restaurants outside of the hotel are somewhat limited. You can roam OSJ freely without any concern. I do so regularly (as recently as tonight in fact) with my wife and 2 daughters (10 and 8). You would need to take a taxi to OSJ from any of the hotels except the Sheraton.

You did not mention decent beaches, so the Condado Plaza might be a good, middle of the road choice. It is closer to OSJ than the others, but the beach is not impressive.
