Guess you don't understand this little icon here::p means I was joking......

Can't wait only 2 more months until I set sail on a Carnival cruise boat:rolleyes:

Sorry...There are those here who get down right snotty when they see someone refer to a Crusie Ship as a "Boat".:)

I did.

Boat: a small vessel for travel on water

Ship: a large seagoing vessel

So now we can decide what is a small vessel and what is a large vessel. My vote is "cruise ships" qualify as ships. ;)

That is only ONE of the definitions of a boat and it is #2 at that! Def #1 is: a vessel for transport by water, constructed to provide buoyancy by excluding water and shaped to give stability and permit propulsion.

That sounds like a cruise ship would fit into that definition! :p

Def. # 4 is .... a ship. The words really are interchangable. While I agree cruise ship is more palatable, boat IS perfectly acceptable according to the definitions in Webster's Dictionary. :)

Wife and I are on the Ecstasy in late July and are staying at the Harbor House Hotel. If I wanted to get up early and see the boat dock and drop anchor, about what time should I get up?

Wife will sleep in, but I figure it would be a good way to start the day.

thanx

......since there is so much discussion about OP's use of "boat".......;)

.......did anyone notice the statement about dropping the anchor when the boat docks........:D

:D Call me snotty.

I have to admit that it bothered me to see the word 'boat' too. I'm glad someone else yelled. :p

If you want to get technical, it is a B O A T also. Check Webster's Dictionary. It is perfectly OK to call it a "BOAT".

Now...I call it a Ship also, but I am not a Cruise Snob, and will not YELL at someone who prefers to call it a BOAT.

Okay that is fine......(whispering)...get on board and call it a boat.

You'll figure it out for yourself! Its a mistake you won't make twice!;)

I'm assuming it is a faux pax you won't make twice because of the reaction of the people who live/work on the vessel? Sort of like if you say "trailer" to the people living in a Mobile Home Park?? *s*

Thats a great comparison. My mother in law got on board one of her cruises and called it a boat.......the collective gasp from the crew was deafening!!!

She never did it again.

The BOAT might do a 360, but the SHIP will only do a 180 at the pier!!!!

The SHIP did a 360, they were just showing off :p , then they did a 180 and docked...

...and they can't do it AT the pier, they would hit it, they have to be in the channel. :)
