Question on Belize zoo for this weekend departure

Hi

Friends of mine are flying down to Belize this weekend and their group is interested in going to Belize Zoo. If anyone has been to the Zoo what did you think of your experience at the zoo? They are going on Scuba Diving trip. The zoo was thought of during the time they are not scuba diving. Is there anything that they should be aware of or any helpful insight ? I am counting on our cruising community to help out travelers to the city of belize Thank you.

We went to the zoo in June of 2005. The zoo is fairly small, but they had animals and birds that are native to Belize, and we had a great time. The weather is extremely hot and humid, so tell your friends to take plenty of water to drink. There is a small gift shop where you can purchase water. There are lots of mosquitos and bugs, so insect repellent is an absolute necessity. The zoo has stone trails, so good walking shoes are in order. If someone wears flip flops or sandals, they are going to have a difficult walking. Hope this helps.

It's been many years since we visited the Belize Zoo. But it was a wonderful experience!

They've taken habitats and built cages around them, so the animals are in their natural environment and, often, not so easy to find -- especially the jaguar!

I highly recommend it as something to see when visiting Belize!
