RCI shore Excursions Question

When you book a tour (scuba specifically) with the ship, can you cancel without penalty if we decide to do our own thing? Is there any benefit to booking scuba tours in advance or just book them once on the boat?

The benefit to booking in advance is that some of the excursions fill up, and are not available once you get on the ship. The window of time you can cancel without penalty after you book might vary, but I believe it was 24 hours in advance for my excursions this month on the Mariner. All it says in the booklet I have is "Cancellations by guests must be made prior to the closing deadline advised directly onboard the ship. Under no circumstances will refunds be made after an excursion has commenced."

Hope that helps.

You can pre-book any excursion online prior to the cruise and it can be cancelled online until 10 days prior to the cruise without any penalties. The amount will be refunded to your credit card.

Once the 10 day frame is reached the online option is closed and you´ll have to wait to make any changes until on the ship. Excursions still can be cancelled or changed once onboard, however there is a blackout date which is published in the cruise compass. After this date/time your purchase is final. If you cancel a online booked excursion onboard, the refund goes to your onboard account, NOT your credit card.

Advantage of prebooking online is avoiding dissapointment if an excursion is sold out when getting onboard.

A big advantage of booking on line is that if you have problems (bus/boat breaks down) the cruise line will wait for you to get back. If you book on your own, you are exactly that, on your own. If your bus breaks down you have to find a way to catch up with the ship at your expense.
