Conquest Review 6/16 - 6/24/07

Just returned from the Conquest on 6/24 and wanted to "pay it forward" . We traveled with a group of 16. This was my 3rd cruise.....1 on Carnival Pride and 1 on Serenade of the Seas. Half of the group was from Texas and the other half from California. The California group flew into Bush the day before which turned out to be a very good thing. Houston was having numerous thunder showers so our flights had long delays. We couldn't even take off from SFO for several hours after our original departure time. Long story short, we didn't check into our hotel until 11:00 p.m.

The day of our cruise went very smoothly. Transportation to the port was great (we had pre-arranged a van for the California group) and we got VIP check in because we had a suite. I have to say, the VIP check in was worth the extra dollars for the suite, and in about 15 minutes we were on the ship.

I think all suites are on deck 7 so that's where we were. Our room steward, Jeffrey, was just great and took very good care of us. The beds and bedding were as nice as I had read about them and we really enjoyed the suite.

Our group of 16 all had dinner at the 8:00 p.m. seating in the Monet dining room. This was certainly a highlight of the cruise. We were all at 2 tables and rotated seats each night. Our head waiter, Henri, and assistant, Suba, were the best we have experienced. They not only took care of all our needs but entertained us as well. Yes, Yes, they were the best. The entrees were average to good, however, the warm chocolate melting cake was excellent.

Entertainment is certainly varied......you can find something for everyone. The casino was one of my favorite places even though I found the slot machines to be very tight. One daughter did win the slot machine tournament the last sea day.....a Carnival tote with goodies, a ship on a stick, and $500.00. Many in our group spent days in the sun on lido deck where they found the waiters very friendly and attentive. We did the trivia games, bingo, piano bar sing along with Vince, etc. Mardi Gras night was lots of fun and appeared to be well organized. The other shows were entertaining, the Carnival dancers were very good, however, the lead male and female singers were just okay.

The group didn't plan any shore excursions with the exception of a jeep adventure in Cozumel. Most of us just got off the ship to do some shopping and, of course, have a drink at Senor Frogs.

A few random comments......

The past guest party was scheduled at 5:00 p.m. one day which may have worked out well for the early dinner seating but certainly did not for the late seating. Needless to say, we all missed it.

There were lots and lots of kids on this cruise but I didn't feel they were ever a problem. I love kids but congratulations to Camp Carnival, parents, grandparents, etc, for a job well done!

The customer service on this cruise was outstanding. Carnival personnel called us by name and you got the feeling they really cared about you. Infact, the casino people gave my second daughter a tote full of goodies the last night and made a special point of including items for me, her mom.

This was a great cruise and we'll be back next year.:)

Thanks for the great review! My 16yo daughter and I will be on her July 1st and we are really excited! What was the Mardi Gras party like? Did you have to bring or wear anything special? Was it something that you participated in or just watched?

We just watched the Mardi Gras but next time we'll join in. The red, white, and blue teams each met in separate locations. Each person had their team color painted on his/her face and was part of a very long conga line that came onto the lido deck weaving in and out of everything. They were all singing, dancing and having a great time. I don't know what else they did in each team meeting but I'm sure it was fun.
