NSW Smoking Laws

With the new laws in place in NSW banning smoking in indoors areas I wonder if P&O will change their policy on smoking. I was on the Sun last year and the Legends bar and Casino were horendus for non smokers. I was of the understanding that the ships operated under NSW law thereby I wonder how this affects smoking areas.

The Casino is now non-smoking, but you can still smoke in the Legends Bar. P&O announced, when we were still tied up in Sydney, that the Legends Bar was non smoking whilst we were in NSW waters to comply with NSW law. When we had been out at sea for a bit, people could smoke again.

The Legends Bar was our muster station, and even though no-one was smoking in it during the lifejacket drill, it stunk and the underlying fumes started affecting the back of my throat and my sinuses. Horrible. :(

If they make it non-smoking, they will have to pull up the carpet etc, to get rid of the putrid chemicals.

Can you tell I'm a non-smoker? I cannot wait for the new laws. They say that pubs and clubs will lose money, but how about the people like me who will now be able to go? Bring it on.

We have had these laws for some time in Queensland and to begin with everyone thought exactly the same - clubs/pubs going broke etc. Most of the clubs knew well ahead of time that this was going to be introduced and underwent changes/extensions to their clubs to provide an outdoor area for smokers, however because these areas aren't usually licensed you are not allowed to take your drinks out to this area. It really hasn't been too bad and everybody has adapted pretty well considering without many complaints at all from smokers. Now the non-smokers complain that there are too many people smoking outside.

Hello?!, excuse me!! non-smokers had the rest of the ship to have non- smoking area - it's a pretty big ship!! I'm a social smoker and enjoy having a smoke without having to be pushed outside - in the wind and cold.

Yes smoking is disgusting and bad for you. That;s why I only occasionally smoke. But there are other disgusting things people have to put up with that they don't ban like dining with other people who have no table manners and eat with their mouth open!!

well, I'm an Ex-smoker (with asthma - I know what an IDIOT!!) and I think I'm an even worse anti-smoker !! My hubby is currently trying to give up and I love going out to dinner with him now and not sitting on my own for half the night while he went outside to smoke. Bring on the ban smoking all together ! (In advance, sorry all you smokers out there, don't inflict a tirade of harsh opinion as I know, smoking isn't illegal and if you choose to, you have an absolute right to smoke if you wish. !!)

I have found that being a social smoker also that it doesnt matter if you are in a smoking area be it inside or outside you will always get someone who is a non smoker that will look at you as if you have the plague or something just as sinister. I am a very considerate smoker and will only smoke outside away from anyone but while they are still a legal substance I will still have my occasional ciggie. Yes i know it is bad for me and i shouldnt do it but its my only vice and i will stop one day .........
