longduo Posted July 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2007 We are sailing from Valparaiso on Jan.10 and plan to spend 1 night before embarking in Vina del Mar since we have already visited Santiago. We would appreciate any recommendations from past or future travelers. Longduo
englishmum Posted July 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2007 We stayed at the Hotel San Martin in Feb of this year and thoroughly enjoyed our one night there. It is centrally situated, yes it is on a main road but we found this ideal for walking around Vina Del Mar.This resort is where all the local take their vacations. The hotel was right near the beach, had free internet access and is just a short taxi drive to the port.If you are looking for the Ritz this is not for you but if you want a centrally place hotel with a decent size room and at a very reasonable rate you cannot go wrong with this choice. longduo Posted July 9, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted July 9, 2007 Englishmum, Thanks for the recommendation of Hotel San Martin. Did it have air conditioning or screens in the windows? We have heard mosquitos can be quite a problem. Longduo
englishmum Posted July 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2007 I can't remember if the hotel had air conditioning but I do not recall feeling uncomfortable even though the temperatures were high. We did not encounter any mosquitos.Vina Del Mar is busy at this time of the year with the locals taking their vacations. We departed Santiago in the morning and as Vina Del Mar is about 70 miles away through the Casablanca Valley we decided to stop at one of the wineries,we then went on to do a quick tour of Valparaiso and then onto Vina Del Mar where we did another quick tour, finally ending up at the hotel mid afternoon. We then relaxed and had a walk around, the beach was absolutely packed. We really enjoyed our stay and it was quite a contrast from Santiago. There are many more hotels for you to choose from but for the price and location and as it was for only one night I thought it was excellent. If you search Hotel San Martin on trip advisor you will see other peoples comments.
