Help.. What to do in Nassau?

We are sailing on the Carnival Glory in November. We have children ranging in age from 9 to 13. Any suggestions on a good beach we can go to so the adults can relax with a frosty beverage and the kids can have fun on the beach with maybe banana boating, parasailing, jet skiing, water trampolines, etc? (The adults like that stuff too!)...Thanks for any suggestions...:D

Head to the Wyndham at Cable Beach. It costs $15pp.. and you can take the #10 jitney from downtown for just $1 pp.

No water trampolines, but you'll find other watersports.

 

Please be aware that because of recent accidents and subsequent deaths, Jetskis are now restricted to 17 and over, with a license.

 

They are dangerous and not to be used as a toy. You're children are far too young for these powerful machines. stick to banana boats and parasailing.

When you get off the ship, where do you pick up a jitney? Is a jitney a cab? Also do they have them at the beaches to bring you back?

Jitneys line Bay street, but the one you want is the #10 and will be on George Street (a side street) across from the bay street entrance of the straw market, or at Mcdonalds on Marlbourough across from the entrance to the British Colonial Hilton.

Just board the "bus" and ask to be dropped at the Wyndham. When you approach, just say stop. (the bus driver usually rememebers and there are other's getting off).. Pay as you leave. exact change pleases. $1 pp.

 

Cross the carriageway to the Wyndham entry. To return, walk right out front of the hotel and hail the jitney.. they come by every few minutes til around 6:30pm.

I just got off the Celebration today and have to say that the Wyndham was an excellent choice on our part as to where to spend our time in Nassau.

 

It has to be located in one of the more beautiful parts of Nassau - just absolutely gorgeous.

 

The pool at the Wyndham was nice (nothing special, but nice), nice beach, easy to get to snorkeling tours, wave runners, etc.

 

Skip the cab and take the Jitney (bus) for $1 per person each day.

We leave in a couple of weeks on the Celebration going to Nassau. I wanted some place for the kids (four of them, ages 8-16) to get in the beach and maybe snorkle.

 

:confused: Questions: How does that $15pp work? Does it just allow you access to their beach, etc. Do they have snorkling? How do you pay?

 

Other BIGGER question: Does the jitney have wheelchair access? One son is mobile, but can't walk far. He uses a wheelchair. It doesn't sound like he could do the walking to an from the bus stops.

Be aware that the main hotel entrance to the Wyndham (where the jitney will likely drop you) has a rather steep driveway to navigate. I haven't seen a jitney that is chair-friendly, but it's possible if the chair is the folding type and you have enough people in your group to act as porters. A taxi would drop you right at the front door.

 

I believe the casino entrance is fairly level, but you'd need to then either navigate the casino to reach the beach, or go through the mini-mall and access the beach next door.

 

The sister properties on either side may have easier beach access. Hopefully someone who's entered them from the street can chime in. I've only stayed at the Wyndham.

All entrances for the Cable Beach Resorts are "uphill". with a few steps leading to the lobby. They wyndhams has an elevator down to the main floor (you'll have to ask where to find it.. as it's not in the open.

 

NBH has only steps going out to a stone laid pathway, and not sure about the Sheraton, since it's still in construction mode.

 

You'd be better off getting a cab that can handle the wheelchair. Jitneys are usually far too crowded and have narrow rows, with pull down middle seats. Unless you get an empty jitney, there will be no place for a wheelchair. Chances of that are slim.

Thanks so much for the information. It saves me a lot of valuable time and aggravation. (the wheelchair can be both a blessing and a curse).

 

It's good to know the taxi might be an option for us. Unfortunately his chair does not fold, so that might not work either. As for the hills, I'm used to that. He wheels and I push (and he LOVES going downhill). Thanks for giving me ideas.

 

We'll probably just walk (and roll) around town. Sometimes the best times are the ones not planned.:o
