Coll101 Posted October 8, 2007 #51 Share Posted October 8, 2007 We booked 4 AF mini suites through the casino department. I will be very happy to enjoy a room just me & my Dh!!lol! The rest of my family is on deck 11. Because my room only had 2 people listed in it, I believe that is why we were offered the upgrade;) Since NCL can they re-sell our cabin & place 4 people in it. Paula W Posted October 9, 2007 #52 Share Posted October 9, 2007 Leaving on November 25 on the Dawn in an AF. It's our 25th anniv, so I'm hoping the upsell fairy will call. My best upsell was a mistake (I think.) RCL - Nov, 2002 (our 20th.) We were in a C (balcony) and I called 4 days before the cruise asking about an upGRADE. Got a very confused but helpful lady who upgraded us to the Owner's Suite - for $200. Period. Not per person, not per day. $200. It was glorious! Rpgolfer Posted October 9, 2007 #53 Share Posted October 9, 2007 Hi gang, I read some upsell posts and Zeno mentioned a GTY cabin. What is a GTY? I must have missed that term when I was on the Star 9/15 to Alaska. Thanks Rich
RSWBADGER Posted October 9, 2007 #54 Share Posted October 9, 2007 AD's are for 2 people only! You can not even book a 3rd person in it! There is NO space for a roll-away! The deck 11 Minis are just around the corner...so enjoy your wonderful Suite, by yourself! There is a small amount of room in the AD Suite, this is from the Pearl AD 10164, the loveseat is not a sleeper. Click to Enlarge [/img]

momthewriter Posted October 9, 2007 #57 Share Posted October 9, 2007 I know you don't want upgrades, but this is in reply to the poster who was asking about the GTY. This is a guaranteed cabin. In our case, we booked a guaranteed category H (outside) on the NCL Sun. There were no cabins left to assign at the time we booked, but they guaranteed an H or better. When we got our cabin assignments, we were put in GG cabins, with no additional cost. Pretty good deal. A question, though. Can you call NCL and request an upsell, or do you have to wait for the fairy to call you?
Paula W Posted October 9, 2007 #58 Share Posted October 9, 2007 Hi, momthewriter: from what I'm reading here, we all need to wait patiently to see if the fairy chooses to call. Sigh. Oh, well, we'll be fine in our mini-suite. I wouldn't have booked it otherwise!
chrisbd1 Posted October 9, 2007 #59 Share Posted October 9, 2007 A question, though. Can you call NCL and request an upsell, or do you have to wait for the fairy to call you? Wait for the call (you can't call them) and do the wish-for-the-upsell dance:)

NO REPLY! I don't care what the reply would be but just peeved that there was none.
LA_FadeAway Posted October 20, 2007 #70 Share Posted October 20, 2007 I think all upsell offers have to come directly from the upsell office, not from your personal consultant.
beachchick Posted October 20, 2007 #71 Share Posted October 20, 2007 I think all upsell offers have to come directly from the upsell office, not from your personal consultant. Correct. The Upsell department is separate from the Reservations department. Your NCL personal consultant is not a go-between for that. However, if you book through a TA (not through NCL directly), then any upsell offers would go to your TA to relay to you. beachchick
hunyok Posted October 20, 2007 #72 Share Posted October 20, 2007 Hunyok, give us more specifics. TA called yesterday saying she had an aft suite, 9208 for $700. Said no. Researched the deck plans and saw it was owners suite. She called back later offering it for $400. Took it.

beachchick Posted October 22, 2007 #75 Share Posted October 22, 2007 I have been on 7 cruises and never heard of an upsell until now. Do they always have an upsell? I am sailing Jan 5 08, should i call my ta and ask for an upsell and when do I do this? Or do i just sit back and hope lol...thanks Have you been on NCL before? Not all cruise lines have upsells. NCL is the first line we've cruised on that does. No, not all cruises have upsells. If a cruise is sold out, there will be no upsells. If a cruise is selling really well, it's unlikely to have upsells (but there may be some close to the cruise date). You can tell your TA that you are interested in an upsell, but you cannot call the Upsell department and your TA should not call the Upsell department. It's a tiny department with one person basically handling all upsells for each ship. They were so inundated with pax and TAs calling constantly asking/pleading for upsells that the management changed the policy to "don't call us; we might call you" and if you or your TA do call and bug them, you run the risk of being placed on the "do not call" list (this is direct from someone who works with the department). You can let your TA know you are interested so that if NCL calls or emails your TA, he/she will know to contact you right away. You must decide immediately. If you say "maybe," the upsell agent will move right on to the next pax on the list. (We really have no idea how any such "lists" are generated; it seems pretty random, although really popular cabin locations may get called more often, and I've heard high-level NCL Latitudes members are often given priority.) The cost of upsells is often an offer to pay approximately 50% of the going rate of the difference between what you paid (not the rate your cabin category is going for at that time, but the actual fare you paid) and what the new higher category is going for at that time. Example: You paid $1000 p/p for a balcony; the Upsell agent calls and offers you an upsell to an AE penthouse for $500 p/p even though the AE is listed for $2000 p/p, which is a $1000 p/p difference. We think it's best to decide in advance how much we'd be willing to pay to upsell. If we get a call (which we hope for, but do not "expect"), we are able to say yes or no immediately. If you use a TA, give your TA an idea of how much you'd be willing to pay because the time it can take for your TA to contact you, for you to say yes or no, and for your TA to get back to the upsell agent can be the difference between getting the upsell and missing out. The upsell agent will not simply wait for your TA to contact you; he/she will simply move on to the next pax on the list. So, keep thinking good upsell thoughts and who knows, you might just get "the call" for your cruise. beachchick
