dc-snoopy Posted July 23, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2007 We will be traveling on the Rhapsody in a couple of weeks and was wondering if Sprint works while cruising and if that also includes the walkie talkie feature. Thanks for your help! It depends on your itinerary. If you go to sprintpcs.com and check out the coverage map, you'll see that you get Sprint service in the continental US (e.g. FLL, Miami, Key West) and territories Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Oddly enough in 2005, while we were on the Jewel, we stopped in Grand Cayman and for some reason, I had regular Sprint service, but it isn't advertised that this is covered. Elsewhere in the Caribbean, you will not have service. You'll go into analog roaming mode. You'll only have service if you activate International roaming *BEFORE* you leave. You have to call Sprint before you leave the country and they will activate the service. Note, that the last time I inquired, I had to stop, pull the battery out of the phone and write the unique identification number of my phone down and then call back. They apparently tie your International roaming service to your specific handset. If you don't do this, then you won't have service while out of the coverage area. I have no idea if the Nextel walkie-talkie features are covered or not while outside the service area as I don't have that feature.
isujim Posted July 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2007 If the ship is now set up for Cellular at Sea........(and I believe most RC ships are now).......you will be able to use your Sprint service at sea. I have Sprint and the cost that showed up on my bill from the Jewel in March was $2.99 per minute..........if the ship is set up, you can use it but it will be turned off while in port.........
